Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 06, 2012 11:58 pm Hi We are getting closer to our build finally being finished. We are starting to think about what we want to do to highlight our fireplace. It will be a very functional feature in our open plan dining, living kitchen. When you walk up the hallway, from the front door its one of the first things you will see entering this area. We have purchased a new leather lounge from Bay Leather in Cocco colour (Dark Brown). Our tiles will be 600x600 cream honed porcelain tiles. Dining table is timber with brown leather chairs. We like brown lol... Carpet on stairs is a charcoal colour which leads into this area. I cannot decide if we should paint around the fire place, or leave it as it.. if we paint it, what colour.. Green, orange, a grey a brown? And then for pillows etc on the lounge. I have no idea on the decorating side of things.. Any suggestions - what would you do? Ha, we purchased the primetime electric 4 theatre seats for one room and for the living room pictured in my first post the Bari 2 and 3 seaters. We also purchased our dinning table setting and bar stools and a side table.. its was a one stop shop lol. Re: What colour would you paint around our fire place 5May 07, 2012 4:21 pm Hi, We have a similar fire and wall. We have painted our wall 200% of the colour of the other walls (1/2 strength grey pebble). It still makes a feature of the fire but not as strong as a feature wall. Re: What colour would you paint around our fire place 6May 07, 2012 7:04 pm I'd paint it the same colour as your other walls, what ever that is.... then purchase a really nice piece of artwork you like to hang above the fireplace. Another alternative would be to a 'griege' (a browny-grey) on either side of the fireplace with a piece on art on each side, and a simple mirror above the fireplace. If you would like ideas on accessories and pieces for the rest of the room, why not post some photos of what you have so far so we can give you some ideas? We have a medium griege on the main wall with a dark griege on the surround of the fireplace, we wil have a tv above so wanted something that made the fireplace be the feature rather than the tv Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: What colour would you paint around our fire place 9Jun 05, 2012 4:31 pm this website has some great marble fireplace surround ideas. www.loosemarbles.com.au i tend to agree with Abby that you should paint the chimney breast wall 200% of the colour of the other walls to make it stand out as a feature. I had two fireplaces, both with modern concrete surrounds. Depending on the look you want to go for (we wanted the bedroom warmer/more neutral, and the living room with more contrast) Walls in the bedroom room were painted with Dulux half strength Royal Beige. Ceiling was Dulux Natural White. We did a contrasting wall in Dulux Carriage P13B7 opposite the fireplace. In the Living room we did both the fireplace wall & the opposite feature wall in Dulux Carriage P13B7, but the walls and ceiling were Dulux Natural White. Very happy with how it turned out. Floors were american oak, in a dark mocha/mink color. I wanted to find you a good photo I had on file - but only cruddy photos from the iPhone.
