Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 02, 2012 11:38 am Yep, I know. We need a few proper large wall mirrors installed, but other than Bunnings and Kmart, have no idea where to find them (and what to look for in a wall mirror!)! Those 2 look a bit cheap (and they are cheap), and also I think they must be glued to the wall - ??? I would prefer something that I don't really need to glue on. I saw some kind of corner fasterners, I think you insert the mirror edge into it ... Also, should the edge be bevelled or not really?? I know it should not be sharp due to safety ... What do you have? And if you mind sharing your experience with the installation too ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Show us your ... WALL MIRROR !!! :) 2May 02, 2012 1:59 pm Hey lex, long time. Do you mean full length mirrors to see yourself in or fancy lounge ones? We got ours from Harvey Norman, just got builder to stick more noggins in so we could hammer some nails in to hang the large lounge one, and the full length is just hung with one nail. That is behind the door in the bedroom. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Show us your ... WALL MIRROR !!! :) 3May 02, 2012 6:41 pm Hi Lex If it's just a dressing mirror you want the one in my walkin robe has a plain edge and is sitting on the skirting and glued to the wall with no brackets holding it. If it's something fancier you require I don't know wherabouts in NSW you are but we purchased this mirror a few years back at a store in the Moore Park SupaCenta and I think it cost $160. Don't know if he would still be there but if you go on the net and check out some of these type of centres in your area you may find something. We re-hung it not long ago in the new place with 2 x 20kg threaded anchors brought at the big green shed. You can also use a hook with the screw version in pic below. Good luck. (of course, the meadow pic first caught my eye)! Yep, I'm after a full length mirror so I can properly see myself head to toe (I think I'm going out dressed like a kid who doesn't know what to pair up! ) So, there ARE some mirrors which you can hang by "something" and not just glue on !! Hey grumblebum54, thanks for that info and the extra pic of the screws, it's like you read my mind!! Yep, I'm in Sydney, but the side further from the coastline ... BTW, great idea to sit them on the skirting (better any support than none!). Just wondering if that glue would hold for years and years and I wouldn't find the mirror one day broken off from the top side and smashed on the floor ... Re: Show us your ... WALL MIRROR !!! :) 9May 03, 2012 6:02 am Lex Thanks guys Hey Mish, so yours is glued on the inside of the doors! I was thinking if that would be doable, considering the weight of the mirror ... eg. some issues to the doors down the track ... The mirror is held on with double sided tape that comes with the mirror. I had one in my last house inside the wardrobe door. The mirrors themselves are very light, so no weight to have to worry about, and once they are on, there is NO moving them! So if you get one make sure your putting it in the right place, the only way you are going to move it is to break the mirror! K-Mart, Bunning's, Mitre10 all sell them. They do the job and they're cheap. I also have a gourgouse mirror in my bedroom over my dressing table. Morning Elements! WALL MIRROR !!! :) 11May 03, 2012 12:47 pm thanks lex, nice to see you again (in a cyber eyes type of way) Re: Show us your ... WALL MIRROR !!! :) 12May 03, 2012 8:26 pm Cheers to you ^ all ! OK, I am narrowing it down as I need something soon and have no time to shop and look around ATM. For this particular room, I don't need something too flash and I want a minimalistic look. I also had a look at Ikea site and found quite a few that I liked, and will probably select one later for another room. Oh yes, I did have a floor standing one in the old house, but never warmed up to these, so I actually gave my pine floor mirror away! So, I have narrowed down to the Bunnings one . It costs a whopping $25 (almost ) and is very simple. I plan (plan ) to install it just by using those corner thingies directly into plaster . Have no idea if plaster (or the screws) will be able to handle it, but we'll try. This way we avoid glueing and, providing all is good, I could even move it some years down the track if I need to change its location (plaster is easy to repair/paint). Might also try to install one inside of the wardrobe door leaf (in another bedroom), hopefully using the same method. So, that's the plan so far. Hopefully we'll install this one within a week or so ... will keep you posted ! In the meantime, I can never tire of looking at other people's nice houses and decor ... eg., love your hall table C.T. and the special figurine on it !! WALL MIRROR !!! :) 13May 03, 2012 9:04 pm Thank you for the compliments Lex but have to tell you nearly all the furniture in this house was bought new when we did the KDR in 2005 at Moorebank and I certainly wasn’t going to get rid of it after only 6 years. The hall table is made of Tasmanian Oak and painted a really dark chocolate brown and we bought a matching buffet, entertainment unit, 2 coffee tables, 2 lamp tables, display cabinet, dining table with eight chairs and they got 3 kitchen stools made for me to match the dining chairs. Therein ****** the tale about how I came into possession of the figurine. Because I spent lots of dollars in their store the owners insisted I take a gift and I chose this Indian chief figure and then the lady picked up the figurine and insisted I take it as well as it would look good on the hall table. It is a groom carrying his bride over the threshold and everybody comments on it so she certainly had a good eye. Here’s a close-up pic. We're building at the mo and I'm really not sure where we'll be able to put this in the new place, possibly our bedroom again. DH had wanted to get it on a wall somwhere but I reckon it might pull the whole side of the house down - weighs an absolute ton! If you put your hangers directly into the studs it should be fine. Regards, Grumbles Re: Show us your ... WALL MIRROR !!! :) 16May 04, 2012 5:59 am LOVE that mirror! DH can't carry it on his own it is that heavy - in fact I think it took 3 of them to carry it when we moved ourselves. I think you can get professional hangers cantvyou? Would def not attempt to do this ourselves! Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43846 Re: Show us your ... WALL MIRROR !!! :) 18May 04, 2012 3:40 pm Hi Lex These are the two mirrors I have at my entry... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The one on the right is actually smaller than the one on the left but looks about the same size in the photo as it’s closer (80cm² as opposed to 1m²). I sourced them from a company in Sydney called Tantra Mirrors and from memory they were about $800 including delivery- so not too expensive. If you google their website you can see they have all sorts of different mirrors including rectangular ones in the style of my ones, amongst others. They are good quality for the price- made in India I believe. Installation was a bit tricky as they are very heavy but my partner and I are quite handy and had a go at it ourselves. We used a method that we perfected installing other wall mounted furniture in our home. I can’t imagine there would be any other way as wall mates and toggle bolts only support up to around 20kg each- unless of course you have noggings installed where you need them during construction or are lucky enough to have vertical timber in the right spot, or if you can adjust the hooks on the mirror itself. What we ended up doing was cutting out a section of plaster at the heights we needed to hang the mirrors to reveal the vertical timbers behind. We made sure the wall was not load bearing and carefully chiselled out around 1-2 cm from these timber members and fixed a piece of hardwood about 1 inch thick across the span of the 2 vertical timbers. We measured precisely that the hooks on the mirror correspond to where we need to hang them on the wall and in this spot we put a thick bolt through the hardwood and tightened it with a nut (we had to remove the hardwood to do this). On the side facing us we also used another nut as a spacer and a large, thick washer to act as a catch for the mirror’s hook. Once that was all done, the mirrors were ready to hang. I should mention that the hardwood sits a couple millimetres below the face of the plaster so that when the time comes to remove the mirrors in the future all we have to do is float some plaster compound over the hardwood to conceal it all. Here is a photo of what I’m talking about- it was taken on my phone so the quality is not too great. And yes, hubby got in a lot of trouble for putting his tools on our new console table!
