Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Mar 07, 2008 8:41 pm Hi guys
Quick questions - I haven't chosen my wall paint colour yet, but I know I have to use Bristol paint and I know I want a sort of light grey/stone colour on the walls rather than white or any other shade of white (Rellie used Wattyl's Scallopine - and this is the sort of shade I mean) I would however, like to leave the main doors, skirts, cornices etc a gloss white, windows will also be white....in some of the bedrooms there will be sliding doors for wardrobes, will it look unusual to have white doors and white wardobes and a different shade on the walls or is this the norm these days? Thanks in advance Belinda Re: Paint for walls/doors 4Mar 07, 2008 9:24 pm Go for it Belinda, what you are proposing is a tried & tested practice!
Quite a few displays in south-east Melbourne have this sort of colour scheme. IMHO white is the hardest colour to get right. Even a "standard white" can be too gray, blue, pink, or yellow for your wall colour, depending on the manufacturer. Take a large sample of your wall colour around to a display home that has the shade of white you are considering & use one of their doors to see if the white will suit your wall. One more question now while I have your attention - My builder gives the choice of the standard vinyl sliding doors or standard white wardrobe doors that open out, which do you think is more practical and will look nicer? This will be for 2 of the bedrooms (for my children) the other 2 rooms have WIR's. Cheers Re: Paint for walls/doors 8Mar 08, 2008 2:26 pm The good thing about sliding doors is that they maximize space ... pull out doors can reduce floor area. We are building a study into one section of our daughter's b.i.r. so the slider can remain open when she is studying and she can close it away when needed. I like sliding doors... practical, space saving. We are renting a unit right now and it has framed mirrored sliding doors. We really like it. So we are having mirrored sliding doors to all our robes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! I agree I like the space saving option of sliding doors, however, DH is worried about the health hazards associated with vinyl ( ) I like the mirrored ones, will, get these for our main bedroom's robes, however, am a bit worried about the kids fingerprints all over them!! Do they get that mucky?? While I'm here I might ask - can you get another type of sliding doors compared to vinyl or mirror? I plan on having a stone/grey coloured wall paint rather than white and would like the wardrobe doors painted the same colour rather than white.. Thanks guys B Re: Paint for walls/doors 12Mar 11, 2008 8:40 pm Belinda,

I plan on having a stone/grey coloured wall paint rather than white and would like the wardrobe doors painted the same colour rather than white.. As far as I can remember, there were 4 types of doors being offered by M: - ordinary cupboard doors (standard to most houses, though they have promos I think that upgrades it to vinyl) - vinyl sliding doors (categ 2) - framed mirrored sliding doors (categ 3) - frameless mirrored sliding doors (categ 4) We also used two-tone colours for the paint - one for the skirtings and cornices; another for the walls and doors. I have a 3-year old boy and our mirrored sliding doors do not get that mucky... I probably clean it once every fortnight.. hehe, unless they played inside the bedroom. Most of the time our kids stay in the family/dining room to play. Also.. training.. hehe ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! I'm going to search around displays again - but I might be sold on the mirrored slides - in fact my 2 y.o daughter adored them in the displays on the weekend - she coulnd't stop looking at herself in them Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6065 The spacing of the studs looks pretty large especially for a load bearing wall. 3 11122 Nope, only on the inside, I've literally has my ears to the brick outside and can't hear anything. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11794 |
