Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 21, 2012 10:15 am Hi, Hoping for some help. Our home is 7 years old but recently had some water damage and paintwork needs to be redone under insurance. The flooring is tassie oak and the walls are Antique White USA 1/2 strength with a couple of walls Dulux Winnow. Am thinking of going full strength Antique White USA as I have little boys and the white is maybe too white. Or maybe even a shade of Hog Bristle. Any thoughts? We live on the coast and originally wanted a beachy look for the house but we also have a very tropical lush green garden so in terms of colour scheme/feature walls I'm not sure what scheme to go with:- blues or greens? Any ideas on this with our tassie oak flooring? We have open plan living with kitchen being central, the bench top is Laminex Lava Flux and the face of the island bench is Stipple Hemp. Our home gets quite a lot of northern light. Trims and ceiling are white and we have medium toned timber dining furniture. Also in my little boys room a shelf came off the wall and left two big holes which I'm not game to fix so am thinking I'll get the painter to fix which will then also require painting. This wall is a feature wall so I could really do with some colour ideas that harmonise with the living area colour scheme. The carpet in his room is a light mocha brown wool carpet. Any ideas are most welcome. Ginger Re: Paint colour help needed please 2Feb 22, 2012 8:33 am Antique White USA is a very creamy colour which would look great with your floors. If you did want a slightly brighter white though, why not try Dulux Natural White which is much brighter but still warm. Dulux Whisper White is also a lovely off-white shade. If you like blue I think Dulux Sell Out and Enterprise are nice dusty blues which would look very nice with creamy-white walls. Domain is a nice sage green if you want a softer look? For your boy's room you could the blues above for a more neutral look, or if you wanted something brighter and fresher Dulux Distant Sky is a nice strong sky blue. As for the main interior wall colour, I think I'll stick with Antique White USA but go full strength this time. I should've mentioned my lounge... the fabric is Warwick Macrosuede 'Mushroom' and I regret this colour choice so much, will anything work with this? I chose it from a small swatch and thought it was more neutral. My original choice was 'Stone' and I rang and changed it at the eleventh hour! When the lounge arrived I almost died, it was so PINK. Since we've been in the house I just don't know how to make it all work. I need to add something in the way of a feature wall, cushions or something that will bring it all together but as I said before I don't know what colour or shade, whether to go for blues or greens (or neither)? I have found the mushroom lounge very difficult to work around as it wasn't the look I was after. I'd like a colour theme that I can then carry through the house so when doing the bedrooms so it's not a mish mash. Existing colours are: Floor - Tassie Oak Walls - Antique White USA 1/2 strength Kitchen Laminex - cupboards - Parchment bench tops - Lava Flux island bench face - Stipple Hemp Lounge - Warwick Macrosuede Mushroom! Tassie Oak dining table (I think in a medium walnut finish) Need Help With? Lounge Room:- Feature wall colour for behind lounge - ? Cushion/ throw rug colour - ? Floor Rug colour - ? Bedroom:- wall colour/ theme - ? (that will be in harmony with living area) Please help, ALL advice welcome. Many thanks Ginger Re: Paint colour help needed please 4Feb 22, 2012 1:37 pm I think the mushroomy colour would look beautiful with the cream walls, flooring and a sage green tone like Domain. Why not make the sofa colour more deliberate by incorporating some accessories in soft dusty pink-grey shades. Pink and green can look very beautiful, it is just a matter of using the muted dusty shades of the colours. By adding lots of contemporary accessories in white and cream you will still have a lovely modern look. You could add some dusty green pillows to the sofa, maybe something like this? http://www.etsy.com/listing/66260682/gr ... t=handmade Along with some other white pillows. If you want a coastal look still, a sisal or seagrass rug would give a lovely relaxed look and be durable for everyday use as well. I have painted my study and my boys feature walls and am very pleased with my efforts. I ended up going with a soft blue in youngest's room - Dulux Preschool, he has a navy doona cover. In eldest's room more a turquoise blue - Dulux Relax which is just lovely and goes well with his ocean colours in his striped doona. Their rooms could do with some accessories but the walls look so much better. My study makeover went really well with Dulux White Duck half strength. I am inspired now and will eventually makeover my bedroom also. I didn't really think I had it in me to paint it all myself but I did Still not sure on the best 'colour scheme' for the living areas downstairs where we have the tassie oak flooring and mushroom lounge so have decided to do nothing. I really want to get it right and pick a scheme/look I'm happy with. Antique White is ok but to change to a 'colour' for the main living and hallway is a big step so will think a bit longer. If I wait a couple of years I might ditch the lounge and start over so I have time to plan. If anyone has any suggestions/pics of furniture or a 'look' that suits the more yellow based timber floor I'd love to hear them. Thanks again. Ginger Thank you @.
