Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Mar 10, 2012 5:32 pm Hi All, We are heading to pre-start in less than a week and are struggling to pick 2 render colours - we have to pick in Solver. We are building a 2 storey home and will use a dark and light against a Surf Mist Roof. Today we painted on our old house with a white wall - Dune, Koala, Beaver Koala came out a little brown, but all were quite depressingly bland. We like the grey look but do not want to go too close to a dark charcoal and we want it to have a warm tone. I also like a browns and chocolates but again not wanting it to be looking like mud. We want to also offset this with a warm sandstone / beige colour but not too yellow. Has anyone got any colour matches that we can try out, that they have put against a surf mist roof? Would really appreciate any recommendations? Also, am I allowed to get a dulux colour and colour match it at Solver? not sure if this is allowed, first time building and all??? Have I spoken to you via email lately, your colours seem familiar. When you painted over your white wall with Dune, Koala & Beaver, did you do a couple of coats of each colour? You will need more than one coat to get the colours right. You need to check with your builder and see if he will allow you to use Dulux base colours, but in Solver paints. No I have not emailed you directly before, but good to see you have had a similar request. No we did not do 2 coats, although it did cross my mind. Hubby thought there was enough on the wall. I will do another coat this morning. I am in Perth and it is not even 6am here yet, but we are heading for another 39' day, so need to do the painting early ! I have been reading other posts and Merino also seems to come up regularly, what do you think? We like the surfmist roof, as it will keep the house cooler in summer, even though it actually looks white against the sun, completely different than on the sample card. The other alternative was Shale Grey as the roof, another light roof. I have heard that people can mix Solver can mix Dulux colours, and not sure if we could do this with our builder, even so, I would prefer to stick with their colours as at least this is one area that can't go wrong with using another company's base colour and trying to match. We are building with Broadway Homes in Perth and we have an individual design, I did try and upload our plans with the elevation on it, but we only have it in PDF and can't work out how to do this. Our home is 2 storey and we are looking at part of the upper and lower directly underneath it being in the contrast darker colour to offset the other part of the upper and lower with the panel garage. This part of the house actually also sits proud so therefore would make a statement in the contrast colour, sorry for the lengthy explanation. I think if we get some good colours together it will work, with possible the front door and garage door in the surfmist to offset this and tie in the roof. It is just sooo difficult picking colours, in the end I will be happy with any recommendations as long as they compliment and look good together. I am also wary of a trend and in 5 years time the house looking like it has come from the year 2012 because of the colours selected, but I suppose not much can do about this as these are the colours appealing to everyone With others Michelle, what colours have you suggested with a surfmist roof? Hubby was not convinced on our previous swatches, he liked the Dune grey but found it not having enough character and depth. His instructions to me were something grey with a blue undertone. So back to Solver I went this morning and have picked up these three contrast colours with a base wall colour. Colorbond Deep Ocean, Tasman Blue, Juggernaut. These have all been painted on our white wall with the base render colour in between called "Southwards". As I could not get a darker grey with out it looking charcoal, I have gone towards the blues. My favourite so far would be "Juggernaut", not too dark like the "Deep Ocean" and not too bland/grey like the "Tasman Blue" However, the base render colour "Southwards" has a blue undertone to it, I am yet to see it with the sun on it, as it is under the shade of the eaves at the moment. But am concerned that it may be a little stark! What do you think of those colours with the Southwards and what would you think would look best. I work with Dulux colours and know them well. Any chance you can check with your builder if he will allow you to use Dulux base colours in a Solver paint? Meanwhile I'll check your solver colours. Can I have a go at putting your colours together using the solver range? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Render Colours in Solver Paints - with a Surf Mist Roof 10Mar 11, 2012 3:58 pm Hi Michelle, Please if you could have a go that would be fantastic. The Green/Grey is not what I want, I am worried with the Surfmist - white roof, that there is not enough of a deeper contrast against this. The Southwards, looks off white rather than a warmer white/beige if you know what I mean. But please have a go and see what you come up with. I am unable to get hold of my builder until tomorrow about the Dulux. So out of the Solver range this is what I have come up with Roof – CB Surfmist Front projection render – Solver Greyfriars Base render throughout façade – Solver Georgian Grey Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Render Colours in Solver Paints - with a Surf Mist Roof 12Mar 11, 2012 4:18 pm They don't have a great range do they !!!! This looks good though, thanks Michelle. Definately will have a contrast now with the roof and base render. What undertones are there in the Greyfriars and Georgian Grey, what do I expect to see when I paint the colours for testing? From my screen, I can see a blue in the main render Carolyn Demolishing and Building Building Individual Design with Broadway Homes PPA signed August 2011 / Demolition April 2012 and Final Contracts signed April 2012 Re: Render Colours in Solver Paints - with a Surf Mist Roof 13Mar 11, 2012 4:24 pm The 2 solver colours have a blue in them. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Render Colours in Solver Paints - with a Surf Mist Roof 16Mar 12, 2012 9:50 pm Hi Michelle, After trying out the colours you suggested, we have decided that the Surfmist Roof is causing us the issue. Hubby does not want a dark garage door, would prefer the lighter colours of Surfmist or Shale Grey. To get the balance across the building, white on white would look wrong for the base render and garage door. So these are the colours we have decided to go with, fingers crossed they will work Roof - CB Shale Grey Gutters - Solver Juggernaut at 75% Fascia - CB Surfmist Contrast Render - Solver Juggernaut at 75% Main Render - CB Surfmist Front Door and Garage Door - CB Shale Grey We are hoping this will frame the house with some offset in the Shale Grey Garage Door. The paint swatches we did show the colours blend well and in full sun you don't even see the Surfmist walls. With us making the Juggenaut at 75% is tones the blue down so it is not so dark, but not by much I think the next house we build will be in brick only, this whole paint render experience has been a headache, I just hope we have it right, if not the Surfmist won't be too hard to paint over Cheers Carolyn Demolishing and Building Building Individual Design with Broadway Homes PPA signed August 2011 / Demolition April 2012 and Final Contracts signed April 2012 Re: Render Colours in Solver Paints - with a Surf Mist Roof 17Mar 13, 2012 5:09 am Good that you have it all sorted. We will have limestone with red handmade feature brick porch and strips through windows. We have stayed with the Surfmist Roof and Garage.. in the end I think colours got the better of us and we went with what we are comfortable with Thanks again, your a gem !
