Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 23, 2008 1:34 pm well....people close to me have already firmly stated
they.... dont like timber floors at all dont like colour brown at all dont like black are completely over chrome dont like stacked stone only like certain styles (eg their home) only like certain colours (eg ones theyve picked for themselves) dont like contemporary houses at all etc etc etc I find it rather upsetting seems I am having most of these things! as well they rave bout other peoples home and say nothing bout mine so far what should I do? just try not let it upset me? ps this is nothing to do with the forum. I find this forum so supportive Re: Colours- peoples opinion and pleasing everyone 2Feb 23, 2008 1:44 pm Ahhhh bec, now finding out that it helps not to reveal your selections and choices to everyone you know!!! There will always be critics!!!!
When I do consultation, the last thing I say to my client is – “Don’t ask all your friends around for coffee to discuss your NOW chosen selections! There is always a few that will make you wounder wether you have made the right decisions….keep them to yourself” Just ignore them bec…..I’m sure a few of them have selections in their home that you wouldn’t have either! The important thing is to have what you want….not what everyone else wants!!! Often silence from one's relatives is the biggest form of flattery. I speak from many years of experience in dealing with judgemental and opininated relatives. Would you believe that no one from our close families( except for one lovely SILand my dad) has even bothered to go down to our house and have a look. Two dont even know where our block is. All I can say............WHO CARES You will always encounter comments about the most ridiculous things such as I would never get floorboards...hard to clean I would never get hydronic heating...collects dust I dont like modern homes...too sterile and ugly I would never buy your block...it will flood I would never have all that glass windows...hard to clean blah blah blah blah blah bec, I bet they are envious as hell, dont allow yourself to be put down by anybody, be proud of what you have achieved Mrs B Re: Colours- peoples opinion and pleasing everyone 4Feb 23, 2008 1:51 pm Mrs B One dosent even know where our block is. Mrs B Seems like a good way to skip out and not tell them where your going!!!! yep we've got a lot of silence (apart from above opinions at other times) as in "we went and saw your house" silence. not its looking good or moving along or shaping up or anything just *dead silence no comment at all nothing* not even worth any comment at all Im so over it all at the moment, thanks for listening weve always got silence though on other houses so nothing new Re: Colours- peoples opinion and pleasing everyone 6Feb 23, 2008 2:04 pm Nice friends…..
Mrs B might be right…perhaps a bit this????? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Excellent cover for book!!!! bec 2 words……bugger em! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Colours- peoples opinion and pleasing everyone 7Feb 23, 2008 2:06 pm bec, you don't have to please anybody but yourself with your house. You are going to live in it.
And it shouldn't matter if other people don't share your taste. What your house looks like is as personal as clothes you choose to wear, or your favourite food. We are all different. Re: Colours- peoples opinion and pleasing everyone 8Feb 23, 2008 2:07 pm Michelle,
You are exactly right in regards to not showing people your colours. I must admit, we are very careful with who we discussed our house with, even now I dont talk about it much other than this forum. My friends have always been fantastic and supportive( that why they are called friends) Bec, why are you so upset? If they dislike your house because of your taste in colour choices and fittings, they would certainly hate mine because I have everything you are having Mrs B Re: Colours- peoples opinion and pleasing everyone 9Feb 23, 2008 2:09 pm thanks
I guess you have to laugh, some things people come out with last house the consultants for our blinds who came to give me quote stood there and said "its a very "cold" home isnt it" (meant very negatively) as if Im going to say yep my house is very sterile totally agree lol maybe I just have crap taste though arghhhhhhh *bashes head against wall* Re: Colours- peoples opinion and pleasing everyone 10Feb 23, 2008 2:13 pm bec thanks yep we've got a lot of silence (apart from above opinions at other times) as in "we went and saw your house" silence. not its looking good or moving along or shaping up or anything just *dead silence no comment at all nothing* not even worth any comment at all Im so over it all at the moment, thanks for listening weve always got silence though on other houses so nothing new At least they go past yours! As I said before, some relatives dont even know where where mine is...I think it's hilarious believe me Michelles picture is spot on...They are so green with envy! Mrs B Re: Colours- peoples opinion and pleasing everyone 11Feb 23, 2008 2:14 pm Im so upset cos Im a people pleaser......

dont like timber floors at all - I love timber floors dont like colour brown at all - I didn't love brown either but our house is going to have lots of brown - guess what - I like it dont like black - I love black!! We are having black bricks are completely over chrome - chrome is clean dont like stacked stone - love it just can't afford it Ignore the green eyed monsters - it's your house and enjoy it. Be proud!! p.s. would love to see some pics and I promise will all be positive feedback from me Fi has moved in!! Re: Colours- peoples opinion and pleasing everyone 15Feb 23, 2008 2:54 pm bec, one day it will click to you that you are not there to please everyone else.
Everyone's taste IS individual or else we'd all be clones.... YOU do what YOU like and stuff everybody else... I have friends/family who WONT even ask about the new house, they don't even bring up the topic although they know that we are building.....and that it's important to us... I'm over it, i've realised, that if they are true friends and close family, they SHOULD support you..and if they don't well TOUGH.... You should be or learn to be confident enough in your own selections to know you shouldn't have to ask anyone for their opinions, cause their opinions shouldn't matter... That's why i LOVE this forum, we don't judge, we are always there for each other whenever we're needed...
