Have pity on me.... I'm still learning about this Facebook stuff!!! Re: So what’s going on????? 31Feb 23, 2008 1:00 pm I'm with you, d@n; facebook, myspace and such have no appeal for me either.
Perhaps I'm showing my age, coming from the pre-historic era, and having grown up in pre mobile phone, pre computer, even pre VHS age. In fact, when I was a child (we're talking back in the 60's here....cringe, cringe) we didn't have a TV until I was 7, then it was black and white, a very well-off neighbour up the road got a colour TV a few years later and what a novelty that was! Hmmm, back in the good old days.......... PS: your'e probably in your early 20's, not much older than my children and don't have a clue what I'm talking about....cringe, cringe, cringe Re: So what’s going on????? 32Feb 23, 2008 1:14 pm Helyn I'm with you, d@n; facebook, myspace and such have no appeal for me either. I only joined Myspace as a tool to help promote my novel….which works!!!! There are publishers in Myspace and other novelist, its good to bounce our ideas and novels off each other. You also get a following of people who like your writing style. So if my novel EVER gets published I know I have a few people in there that will rush out and buy it….GOOD FOR ME!!! I have also made good friends with some published writers, it’s nice. My daughter has a Myspace account and finds it boring she’s 26. Unless you have a reason to be there, I can imagine it would be really boring. I'm certainly not addicted to facebook, and in fact a relative forcefully signed me up in his presence a good few months back. I didn't take much interest to it, until friends that I'd lost touch with from around the globe found me through facebook. So, it's helped us reunite, and quite an effortless way to stay in touch. I still prefer email for corresponding personally amongst friends, and I miss writing good 'ol letters in fact. Re: So what’s going on????? 34Feb 23, 2008 1:37 pm I prefer email as well….and still write letters to my grandmother, which she loves getting.
Yes, if you have friends that are members of these contact mediums it’s a great way to be found and start communicating again. I just don't see what benefit people get from these sites.
Is it vanity that you can claim to have hundreds of "friends"? I hear the argument from some that it helps you stay in touch....but what's wrong with email? Certainly alot faster. Re: So what’s going on????? 36Feb 23, 2008 2:35 pm Obviously you missed my point. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: So what’s going on????? 37Feb 23, 2008 2:57 pm I probably log into facebook about ten times a day. I never bother with anything on their but scrabulous - online scrabble. I play against family, friends, school friends I haven't seen in twenty years, and old work mates. I am addicted! As for the rest of facebook I really couldn't bother. My main form of communication with all my family is email and text messages - rarely the phone. That has more to do with having young kids than preference. Fi has moved in!! Re: So what’s going on????? 38Feb 23, 2008 3:04 pm homeone So Phoenix, how many friends do YOU have? (he he) ...and I wrote this knowing that individuals in the facebook community are obsessed with measuring up against a count of friends. As far as email being faster, not too sure about that, as you still have to work through the same number of click-thrus before finally clicking that send button. I do prefer Gmail, however, as I can sort through my email using the "search" function. Emails are easier to find, and neatly organised.
