I'm quite torn about the cedar ceiling. I love the look of it, but I guess it does visually bring the height of the ceiling down, which isn't what you want as the high, vaulted ceiling is such a fantastic feature! If you were to do away with it, I think I prefer replastering to simply painting. I was also wondering if the sketch you link to is to scale, and are you planning to replace the heater/fire/stove? In the sketch, its proportions seem a little off to me. It seems dwarfed by the TV and the width of the fireplace itself, and gets a little lost. Can you opt for a larger one, as its such a focus for the room?
