Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 17, 2012 12:14 pm We are currently trying to arrange window coverings in our new home & have had 2 companies come out to quote & both of course are giving us differnt advice in order to make a sale. We had a "curtain guy" (do they have a proper name??) come out & he was lovely & full of advice & ideas. For my DD's room he has suggested fabric, custom made roman blinds with a roller sun screen blind behind for daytime privacy. We have since had another company out to quote on some double rollers & plantation shutters for other windows but he is telling us to steer clear of roman curtains as apparently they are not practical for regular opening & closing?? he thinks they will start to sag from the top....I don't know if I should really trust his advice as I don't know if he is being honest or even knows what he's talking about.... Anyone with romans had any issues? They are very good blinds. The set up with the escreen underneath and roman on top is the best setup in terms of not letting heat in etc. . roller blinds are much cheaper thats why he might be encouraging you to go double roller. Re: Advice on Roman Curtains pleeeease 3Jan 17, 2012 1:36 pm how well a roman blind looks and operates will depend on how well it is made and the components used in constructing it (this included the lifting mechanism). You should also consider the cords used in making an operable roman blinds and the associate strangulation risk in a childs bedroom. Re: Advice on Roman Curtains pleeeease 4Jan 17, 2012 1:38 pm We had full block out roman blinds in our previous home which were only from Freedom and they never sagged. They were used daily and they still worked perfectly when we sold 5 years later. I will again be having a combination of roman's and shutters in our new home. mimi Re: Advice on Roman Curtains pleeeease 5Jan 17, 2012 1:55 pm One other thing regarding roller blinds, is that when you have the window open they bang against the window frames! We have them in the rental we are in and they drive me crazy! mimi Re: Advice on Roman Curtains pleeeease 6Jan 19, 2012 9:38 pm Thanks for the helpful replies! We received the quote for the roman blinds & although I expected custom made blinds to be expensive I was shocked at how expensive they were! So we have decided to get double rollers instead, it was what we originally planned on anyway so not to worry Building our custom design "Dream Home" Follow my Build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46820 Contract Signed - 28/04/11 Siteworks Commenced - 20/06/11 Re: Advice on Roman Curtains pleeeease 7Jan 19, 2012 9:39 pm We have the e-screen andf block out roman in our master. I will try and get a good photo for you. Our front window is 4 metres wide - but the ends are corner windows so there are different heights so all up we have 6 romans across the front. They are very heavy due to the block out backing - but they are very good quality fixtures used and they have certainly not sagged at all. mimi23 One other thing regarding roller blinds, is that when you have the window open they bang against the window frames! We have them in the rental we are in and they drive me crazy! mimi We have these in the minor bedrooms/study - OMG they drive me nuts too with the clanging and banging. DH is getting the rubber stripping that goes on door frames to stick on the side that bashes on the windows (our windows are grey/silver so we are getting the grey colour to try and colour match them do you cant seem them from the street!) Which one and how is it? 0 2426 Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 15226 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 13777 |
