Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 30, 2012 11:43 pm Hi all, we recently purchased a large open plan two story brick 80's built house which has not been touched since it was built, we plan on doing a full reno on it and bring it into this century.
The main living area steps down from the side of the main entrance and is 6200mm x 5200mm as you step down on the right is a 5200mm high brick feature wall with fireplace in the middle and then the cedar clad cathedral cieling sloping down to the left, a full row of windows and then the cieling continues to the left wall wich is wall to wall windows and large sliding glass doors opening out to the alfresco area. I'm thinking about building a frame the width of the fireplace upto the cieling and then clading in either kosiosko or starlit sky stack stone, plaster either side of the brick wall, ripping the carpet up and tiling with stratos nero polished tiles Tiles http://www.nationaltiles.com.au/ntstore ... =MAXFL7078 Stack stone http://www.tjimports.com.au/kosiosko.php http://tjimports.com.au/starlit-sky.php As for the cedar i'm not sure to keep or plaster over? Wall colour? Any thoughts ideas? Cheers, Paul. Re: Help with renovating our living area 4Jan 31, 2012 6:35 am Black floor tiles, tells me light walls……a colour like Dulux White Duck half would work. Re: Help with renovating our living area 9Jan 31, 2012 10:00 am ![]() dan, it opens the windows. there is usually a handle..and you turn it. cant see a handle though..... Correct, would like to conceal them somehow? Also the cedar below the long window on the right is a door to a wood box, going to get rid of that and plaster it. Re: Help with renovating our living area 10Jan 31, 2012 8:13 pm Half Light Rice will work. I love cedar....but I have to say it does date a home, so if you paint it all out... is up to you. If you do, use a ceiling white. You will be amazed at much lighter the room will be. The window winder on the wall??? Not quite sure what to do with that, it pretty much has to stay there, but how to hide it? ![]() Internal and External - Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide Re: Help with renovating our living area 11Jan 31, 2012 9:00 pm Thanks for your help michelle, I agree with the cedar, seems almost sacrilege to cover such a beautiful piece of timber, but we're wanting a sleek clean modern look to our new house, so paint or plaster over it would be the go i feel.
I was thinking of doing either side of the stack stone in a panel form layout painted in a deeper shade to the other walls, something similar to this. http://my.jetscreenshot.com/5637/20120131-uuaf-43kb.jpg What are your thoughts? Re: Help with renovating our living area 18Feb 01, 2012 11:11 am I reckon paint the walls white - vivid white...or if you can't go that, Antique White USA. We have just built a room which has a cathedral timber ceiling, a wall of grey box and a timber floor (grey box). The room also has a single glass door, 2 sets of glass french doors and quite a lot of windows that are cedar framed. These things have all been sealed to stay their timber color. The balance of the ceiling is timber (ash) , and the walls are done in in regency pine boards. This is all painted white. After trying lots of 'whites' we settled on Vivid White (which is basically just untinted white ![]() I would pick out the things you do like (eg ceiling) and want to keep. The rest I would paint one color. If you dont want to re-plaster, the vivid white is great, because the texture of the bricks / timber underneath is what provides the interest. Then change the floor covering to something other than beige ![]() Re: Help with renovating our living area 19Feb 01, 2012 6:24 pm ![]() I reckon paint the walls white - vivid white...or if you can't go that, Antique White USA. Has an art gallery feel with those 3 prints and the grey-blue colour scheme. I really like it, we plan on mounting a 55" LCD into the stack stone above the wood heater with full surround sound system, I'm hoping by using pannel form on either side of the stack stone instead of flat plaster, it will help absorb sound coming from the rear speakers, thus reducing any echo effect.
