Out of curiosity of that lovely old Queenslander you have, can you post a pic of the externals? I love being a Queenslander and although I grew up in a post-war home........I spent many hours at friends farms hanging out in a Queenslander. Gee, I can't wait to get to the decorating stage!!!!! I will definitely be asking your opinions! ~ okjorg viewtopic.php?f=31&t=55196&p=844089#p844089 Settlement date - 13 Jan Final plans - 24 Sept Council approval - 21 Oct First peg in the ground - 7 Nov Re: My Queenslander...renovations and decoration progress! 25Mar 29, 2012 5:27 pm Hi Veefy, It is full strength. I've found it's a lovely colour, lots of blue undertones and it is quite variable depending on the light (like all paint colours). Just be aware that it does have a definate blue undertone, rather than just a pure grey. I'm sure it will look great. Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'm pretty excited to get this room finished so I can move into the furniture (my favourite part obviously!). And Michelle, I'd love to post a pic (it's a fairly boring exterior though, as it is a war-era Queenslander and doesn't have any pretty verandahs or anything). Unfortunately, I'm a bit cautious about posting exterior photos because Townsville is a fairly small city and there are too many of my details online a ready. This is what I'm going to use as an entertainment unit for my TV (I like to use something a little different that fits in with the style of my living room). If you'd like instructions on how to paint your own piece I've done a tutorial on my blog here: http://mydesignethos.blogspot.com/2012/ ... eover.html I'm sure it's not to everyone's taste but with so much timber in my home I wanted something a bit fun! I am however drooling at your floorboards. I love em. Sandra Re: My Queenslander...renovations and decoration progress! 31Apr 02, 2012 1:29 pm To be honest, painting a piece of furniture isn't that hard - it can just be a bit time consuming waiting for the coats to dry! This weekend I knocked down an old set of wardrobes in my living room, will post the finished wall this week hopefully! I am thinking it is because that gives you the most satisfaction - it's so easy to go to Ikea and buy something that you will see in lots of houses - it's not unique. It seems to me that you have built up a collection of favourite pieces over the years and choose to paint them to fit into your colour scheme rather than buy something new. I applaud you and wish it wasn't so hard to find those interesting pieces as we would love to be able to do that ... we are currently looking for a chair and chaise longue for the retreat circa 1870 .... and it's proving hard For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: My Queenslander...renovations and decoration progress! 34Apr 07, 2012 2:35 pm Hi mclaren! I have a few reasons for picking up older pieces. The first is that I don't have an enormous budget so although I could get cheaper pieces from stores like Ikea I find the quality of secondhand pieces is much higher for a similar price. Plus we don't have an Ikea in Townsville to the expense of shipping means they aren't any cheaper than other stores! That said, you are right - I like finding interesting pieces and they have a lot more meaning because they're mine! I know that noone else has them. But, I do like to mix them in with some more modern, clean lined pieces too. To be honest it can be hard to find unique pieces here as well - I try and drop by a few favourite stores as often as I can just for a 5 minute look. Sites like Gumtree.com are helpful as well. Most often it just comes down to luck Good luck with your hunt - have you tried eBay? I bet it was passed by and dismissed by dozens of people before you saw its potential. I'm patiently waiting for the right second hand piece to materialise for my TV unit. It's hard when you have something fairly specific in mind, but I'm sure it'll turn up eventually. Back to trawling eBay and op shops... Re: My Queenslander...renovations and decoration progress! 36Aug 17, 2014 12:40 pm What an amazing renovation you're doing! I have a very similar house in Brisbane. The same yellow kitchen! We are putting in a modern kitchen, but I was amazed how good your kitchen turned out with just a bit of paint and some minor changes. Wow! Off to check out your blog! Thanks for that! Yeah, I was thinking timber front door. 10 19475 nothing to do with salespeole. you'd do well to read and ccomprehend the post before bashing away at the keys with some negative comment again. 4 5063 8 3960 |
