Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Dec 11, 2011 5:21 am My walls are Dulux Hog Bristle quarter, and the floors are polished pine. I am purchasing new furniture for my apartment. What colour scheme should I go with? What colour lounge, blinds? I am leaning towards white, as the walls look beigeish with the yellowish floorboards, so I dont want anything creamy for blinds/lounge. I could only think of white as the lounge room is small. What about dining table? White or glass? What other splash of colours could I add with accessories and paintings that will go with Hog Bristle quarter? The good thing about Hog Bristle is that it is a neutral, which means you can coordinate it with just about any colour you like. I don't know what kind of style you like, but I always feel that if you put Hogs Bristle with a lot of white, it tends to make the paint look very beige, whereas if you put it with darker chocolates it lightens it up. Don't feel like you have to use white, just because your apartment is small; the more important thing is scale. If you have a small space you need to scale your furniture appropriately; so even if you love that enormous comfy sectional, you might be better off with a smaller 2 seater sofa, and a pretty armchair. With an apartment, it is also good to think of things with a dual function, so maybe use an ottoman or upholstered bench as a coffee table. That way, normally you can put a tray on top and use it as a table, but when you're entertaining it can be used as extra seating. If you want a neutral colour scheme why not try shades of cream, white, chocolate brown and black and then one or two splashes of an accent colour you like. Some colours that look great with shades of brown are coral (pinky-orange), teal or bold orange. I love chocolate, and that was my initial choice for a lounge (i fear white may get dirty easily), but I thought it would make the room look smaller. But i understand what you are saying about keeping furniture to scale. Would a 2 seater chocolate lounge be ok, plus a lighter (maybe a cream or white armchair). I went to Harvey Norman and Nick Scali for furniture last weekend, and all their lounges and dining tables seem so large! I am trying to go for a modern/minimalist look in my place... maybe im looking for furniture in the wrong places? Are there any shops that cater for apartment-sized furniture that is good quality, or is it just a matter of shopping around and trying your luck at several different shops? Colours that go with Hog Bristle 1/4 5Dec 11, 2011 1:26 pm We have hog bristle half on all our walls and it goes so well with all the different colours in my kids' rooms. We have a chocolate coloured lounged with red and blue throw cushions. Goes brilliantly. Dulux was on a winner with that colour! Its such a neutral colour you have a blank canvas to work with. Anything will go with Hog Bristle. It's probably just a matter of shopping around. Ikea tends to cater toward apartment so it just depends on what kind of quality you are looking for? I think you're definately on the right track with a 2 seater. I have a very small place (an old Queenslander), so I have a small two seater, and two armchairs. My armchairs are vintage so they are already very small (modern furniture tends to be much larger). If you like the modern look, you might like the Slipper chair from Freedom; they are quite small, and the armless style keeps it streamlined. Have you tried some online stores like Matt Blatt?
