Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Nov 26, 2011 8:18 am I've just purchased a house same design as the one below (mine has been taken off the net) and need help with colours. Mine has a green roof and mist green gutters (not changing). I was originally thinking greys but changed my mind as I'd like something warmer. It's only for a rental but obviously I'd like street appeal. I was thinking warm neutral for the walls and hog bristle (1/2?) for the verandah and white with a little hog bristle trim for the windows doors, uprights (is plain white to bright?. There are also picket uprights on the verandah railing (hog bristle?) same as verandah wall? http://www.realestate.com.au/property-h ... -107281153 Any help REALLY appreciated. I've been trying to decide for weeks. But have to decide by next week to let the painter know. Re: Desperate house colour help please 3Nov 26, 2011 6:25 pm Green can be either cool or warm, and unless my computer screen is way off , "Mist Green" looks to be a warm green (can be hard to tell without seeing it in person though). In which case you will be spot on with a warm neutral colour. White should be ok for the trims, it will depend on the colour of the aluminium windows though. Off white may be a little safer but still give your windows a nice bright look without looking too stark. Good luck! Re: Desperate house colour help please 4Nov 26, 2011 7:09 pm Thanks. Yeah I think the mist green is warm in colour. Windows are wooden so will be painted. I'm more of a rip out replace renovator rather than a decorator. I saw warm neutral and Hog Bristle on the Dulux website. And funnily enough they're the colours we use inside. Neutrals are easier with rentals and the tenants seem to like that colour scheme. Desperate house colour help please 5Nov 26, 2011 7:23 pm Sounds like you're on the right track, it will look lovely. I agree about neutrals, I love clever use of colour, but in my house I've gone neutrals as its easier to change the look with accessories and it won't date as quick Re: Desperate house colour help please 6Nov 28, 2011 4:53 am That sounds pretty good. I'm not really worrying about the mist green gutter. There's no way I'm having green (that's what it is now). Mist green is a soft colour so not really obtrusive.D@n-What would you suggest then? I think Hog Bristle is a light neutral. Warm Neutral is (well neutral) but a bit darker. Desperate house colour help please 9Nov 28, 2011 3:17 pm Usually that's true but there are exceptions, for example olive green is a warm colour. Re: Desperate house colour help please 10Nov 28, 2011 3:28 pm Here's a bit more information about cool and warm colours and how depending on the base (yellow or blue) colours can be either cool or warm. "As a group, reds and yellows are considered warm colors and blue a cool color. But if you compare different reds (or yellows or blues), you'll see that there are warm and cool versions of each of these colors (relative to each other only). For example, cadmium red is definitely warmer than alizarin crimson (though alizarin crimson will always be warmer than, say, a blue)." This applies to green as it does most colours Re: Desperate house colour help please 11Nov 28, 2011 4:22 pm selina2106 Usually that's true but there are exceptions, for example olive green is a warm colour. Like I said before, technically it's not. Green (or olive green) is in the family of cool colours. The colour wheel is pretty well split into what is cool vs warm vs neutral. travelbug D@n-What would you suggest then? I think Hog Bristle is a light neutral. Warm Neutral is (well neutral) but a bit darker. Can you post a pic of the place? Without seeing the place, my suggestion would be to stick with a neutral or cool neutral. Hog bristle is a warm colour. Re: Desperate house colour help please 12Nov 28, 2011 5:36 pm I find this site impossible to post pictures which is why I posted a link the a house that is exactly the same. Imagine it with mist green gutters. Or even forget that. How would you paint the house in the link above? Only difference is mine has picket uprights around the verandah. Thanks. Re: Desperate house colour help please 13Nov 28, 2011 6:13 pm d@n The colour wheel is pretty well split into what is cool vs warm vs neutral. The use of colour has been a major part of my studies and a knowledge of it is extremely important in my career. Many colour mistakes can be made by assuming that just because a colour is green or blue that it is cool. There is simply more to it than that. The colour wheel is merely a starting point. Yes, green is in the cool family but there are so many variations. Just like you can get a cool (blue) based red that would look fantastic with a cool grey colour scheme. We could disagree all day but all this proves is that people will always have different ideas, so just pick what you think will work Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7602 Thank you @. Tried to play with the facade models but the exact colour is not matching up. 2 3629 welcome to learning that colours vary in different lighting conditions. 1 3019 |
