We are in - and while it is all slowly coming together, I would love some advice on our open plan living/dining/kitchen area. It just isn't quite right? I need to add window coverings, an ottoman? more cushions? ahhhh I don't know She's backkkkk... Re: Sharee needs help again 2Oct 17, 2011 12:46 pm I think it's your feature wall - it's too dark and doesn't tie in with anything else in the room. You need to change it or add some blue cushions in the same colour or ??? Re: Sharee needs help again 3Oct 17, 2011 2:00 pm Hi Sharee! I actually just left you a response over at the Decorating Forum but had some more ideas after looking at your photos again I think something lighter on your dining room feature wall would make a big different - something like a simple modern white console table (a glossy one would tie in with your kitchen as well) with a big mirror above it. I'd also add some long curtains to at least the dining room window. Something fairly neutral - maybe white with a chocolate brown trim? Something like this http://pinterest.com/pin/182592798/ with brown trim instead of black. I'd also put down a larger rug in a darker colour, or if you want to keep it neutral, add a chocolate brown ottoman. You just need something to ground your light coloured furniture & floor against the dark feature wall. A natural rug in a sisal or something similar would look great with plantation shutters and give you some nice texture in the room. And then just throw down some more textured cushions - you don't really need more colour just use some ones with pintucks or pleats or something to add a different texture to the room. It's so hard to pull a room together to really finish it off isn't it? You've done an amazing job so far though so I'm sure you'll work it out Anna Ethos Interiors is a fresh and creative design firm, specialising in online interior design services for clients all over the world. http://www.ethosinteriors.com.au Re: Sharee needs help again 4Oct 17, 2011 2:25 pm ooh there's a decorating forum? hmm might have to look for that. Sharee, I absolutely love your feature wall. It's amazing and I love that you were bold to put it up. But, I think it needs something to tie it together with the rest as right now it sort of a lovely feature in its own right but not working with the room as well as it could be. I love the idea already mentioned of a lighter colored table in front with the mirror above. Great idea! I'm sure that will help. Re: Sharee needs help again 6Oct 17, 2011 8:10 pm d@n Mclaren I think it's your feature wall - it's too dark and doesn't tie in with anything else in the room. I'll 2nd what mclaren said. The pattern and colour just doesn't work IMHO. I agree..... She's backkkkk... Re: Sharee needs help again 9Oct 18, 2011 9:57 am Yep I think you're heading in the right direction with your ideas. The thing is I'm sure most would agree that the wall paper is fabulous and the rest of the room is fabulous, its just not combining effortlessly. So yep, don't give up, I'm sure you can make it work. Re: Sharee needs help again 10Oct 18, 2011 10:43 am Sharee - are you able to paint your walls? The wallpaper itself is lovely, just doesn't seem to flow with your wall colour (may loook different in real life but the photo of the kitchen above the paint is coming off a creamy yellowy against the wallpaper). I think with another wall colour and those added extras you mentioned it would become more harmonious. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Sharee needs help again 11Oct 18, 2011 11:46 am Its not the wall paper... I love it, its the colour of the adjoining wall. It needs to be crisp white. Then add in white funiture like a console table, and then repeat that colour thru into cushions etc. Love to see progress pics. The wallpaper must stay, it is stunning!! Even a very pale blue would be nice to compliment the feature wall. Or a white as previously suggested. Looks great though, I love the look you are going for. Jess Re: Sharee needs help again 13Oct 18, 2011 2:09 pm I also agree with the paint clashing with the wallpaper. White or very pale blue would be a better fit IMHO. Or maybe a light silvery/grey colour to tie in with dining light fitting, kitchen cupboard handles etc. I know you said you didn't have room to put anything against the dining room wall but what about a lovely mirror or something to tie your light fixture in. I think I dark brown ottoman/darker brown rug (maybe with hints of lighter blue in them somewhere) between the couches would tie in the wall, couch feet, dining tables and door frames. It will also help to break it up Forrester 43sq We have our keys (3/6/11) Now it's time to decorate (that's the fun part.lol) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37598 Re: Sharee needs help again 15Oct 28, 2011 4:59 pm ref_kt I also agree with the paint clashing with the wallpaper. Hey Sheree, you've done an amazing job with these rooms + I absolutely love your brave choice with the wallpaper. It's stunning. Agree with ref_kt that possibly silvery/grey would be a great alternative wall colour to blend the wallpaper feature in a little more. Rudolf1980 As for the dining room, you def need either a console table or slimline buffet in the dark timber against the feature wall. It will also help to break it up The other suggestion I would make is add a little more texture with the cushions ~ it looks like you have blue + brown? Maybe a third cushion with a pattern ~ same colours ~ to echo/reflect the pattern of the wallpaper? _______________________________________________________________ We're a knockdown | rebuild ~ Melb SE burbs Building modified version of the Fairhaven Glenaire Homeone thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28429 _______________________________________________________________ Re: Sharee needs help again 16Nov 15, 2011 12:46 pm I love your wallpaper, Sharee.
