Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 29, 2012 12:13 pm Hi, We have just added an extension to our house ... we got the painter to do a feature wall in the same colour as our kitchen. It looked okay before we put in the carpet, which turned out to be a lot bluer/greyer than I first thought. We were more after mochas, lattes, etc sort of colour scheme but the carpet has turned out way different and I don't think it really goes. Too late now I think ... but anyway, does this really look terrible? And what colour lounge suite do you think would tone down the colours? Black leather? Lounge room pic is here http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/18/img9691t.jpg/ Anyway suggestions greatly appreciated ... I'm just not happy with it at all. Nina Re: Help please - does this look really bad? 2May 29, 2012 12:54 pm I can see what you mean, but i dont think it looks terrible, but it is a bit off. Are you going to be putting a lot of artwork on the wall? mirrors, pictures, photos etc? Re: Help please - does this look really bad? 4May 29, 2012 1:16 pm Like alt0160, I can see what you mean. I think it looks fine and you could work with it, but it's always hard when you have a set idea of what you want it to look like in your head. The only thing I could suggest would be changing the wall colour or the carpet colour if you're really unhappy with it. The wall would be more cost effective to change, but will change your colour scheme. Changing the carpet will put everything back in the color ranges you were after. As always it seems like a tradeoff, cost v effect. Re: Help please - does this look really bad? 5May 29, 2012 1:54 pm Thanks guys for your feedback. al0160, yes I totally agree with you it looks a bit off ... I'm just not sure how much. We will be putting up some nice artwork and pictures, but as it's just newly done we haven't gotten that far yet. Not sure whether to accentuate the grey carpet or the brown wall now, in our accessories. Or go a totally different colour for accessories that goes with both. Thanks Kyton, I do agree ... so I should probably accessorise with colours that go with the carpet, rather than the brown wall? thosepainterguys, thanks, yes it is hard when I had a set idea, it's a bit disappointing. We have chocolate brown carpets in the other rooms in the rest of the house so not sure why we chose something different for our lounge. I thought about changing the wall colour to the "Oak Buff" white colour on the other wall instead, it does go with that I think. I don't think hubby would be too happy about changing the carpet. :/ Re: Help please - does this look really bad? 6May 29, 2012 2:18 pm It is not hugely off. I wonder what some black and white photos in black or silver frames would look like. It depends on your decorating style. What do you have in your other rooms? Re: Help please - does this look really bad? 7May 29, 2012 7:51 pm The room looks better with furniture in it. Hope this will help you get your head around the colours.... I will show my husband and see what he thinks of those colours. Treeseachanger - that's true, those colours probably would all blend well together. I will have a look around and see what we can find in those colours. Yes the wall does have a brown tone, you're right. And as Michelle has shown you can have a complete contrast. You're really not limited. Green also looks good with blue and brown and a bit of ivory or off white.
