Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 10, 2011 9:42 am Hi,
We are building with PD and completed our colour selections in March. Our build will probably start in late August/early September. During this time I have started to second guess all of our colour selections! When we chose everything, I was really happy with them, but now I am unsure. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have placed links to our blog for the details, with some colours not reproduced too accurately. Our starting point - Really dark flooring, therefore our colour selections have been based in that. Thanks for helping Leanne Re: Doubting Interior Colour Selections....Please Help 2Jul 10, 2011 12:30 pm I like your choices. But perhaps the bathrooms need an accent? The floor tile is lovely, and I think it will look great in the shower and as a splashback too, but perhaps it needs something to break it up just a little? Feature strip? One wall of the shower in a contrasting colour? Then again, you have a contrasting colour for your cabinetry, so perhaps that will be enough. And of course, you can always add colour accents with towels and decorative accessories. I'm going to edit your post to add the pics - it will make it easier for folks to figure out what's what. Re: Doubting Interior Colour Selections....Please Help 3Jul 10, 2011 12:31 pm I like your selection With regard to slection of tiles, if you haven't done so I would just suggest you visit display houses that have the tiles you like installed. The idea is to see how it looks in reeal with the furniture in place. To me the tiles are the critical component in your colour composition. They can help make, or break, a statement when you enter the room. You can always repaint walls if you don't like the colour but for tiles it would be much more costly and hassle. In your colour selection you will also need to take into consideration your future furniture, blinds, curtains too. Hi kek, Thanks for you help with putting the pictures in and your suggestions. We did think about putting a colour in the shower but thought it may end up a bit busy. Our shower is 1500x900 and on the shorter wall is a European shower head and on the longer wall is a 1025x325 niche. Between the shower and the vanity is a glass panel door which will look out to the main courtyard garden. In the ensuite we will also have a floor to ceiling towel rack. I do like the idea of putting the mosaic tile from the laundry in the niche, but think the grout will require too much cleaning from the residues from shampoo etc. Re: Doubting Interior Colour Selections....Please Help 5Jul 10, 2011 4:50 pm Jervisbay I like your selection With regard to slection of tiles, if you haven't done so I would just suggest you visit display houses that have the tiles you like installed. We have done the displays to death, there is just so much nice stuff out there. The majority of our floors will be Mosowood (entry hall, study, lounge, kitchen, family and passageway) we intend on following that flooring colour to our alfresco and portico. There are a lot of American TV shows which have really dark wooden floors and I just love them. The one I love the most is Nora Walker's house from Brothers and Sisters. There are not many displays around with super dark floors. I think the thing with the building process is that it takes so long from selecting to building that you see so many different things in between. I doubted our selections also but they've turned out great. Rups I do like the idea of putting the mosaic tile from the laundry in the niche, but think the grout will require too much cleaning from the residues from shampoo etc. We put mosaics in our main bathroom shower niche and there isn't *that* much grout to worry about Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have our walls painted New pearly white, here is how it looks on the walls, I think your floors will look great with it (maybe i'm biased ) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My building thread : viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36059 Paid initial deposit 24/7/10 Tender appointment 20/8/2010 Flooring and tile appointment 25/9/10 Colour and Electrical appointment 13/9/10 December site start delayed Site start (YAY!) 17/1/11 Slab pour 1/2/2011 Re: Doubting Interior Colour Selections....Please Help 12Jul 11, 2011 3:11 am deb17 suh HomeAngels I really like all your colour selections and the two different stones in the kitchen would like great. I do agree with deb, suh and HomeAngels regarding changing the colour of your splashback. A milk coffee colour would go well with your selections or even maybe a metallic chocolate? Re: Doubting Interior Colour Selections....Please Help 13Jul 11, 2011 6:51 am Well I like it I’m over the neutrals, I’m enjoying seeing colour make a slow come back. I like the Bosco Blue for your splash back, which is really what I’m talking about. BUT…..make sure you complement that colour else where in and around your kitchen Bosco Blue will work well as an ascent for the bathroom, but using decorative pieces and towels not a solid wall. Paint, cushions etc are easy to swap, but big-ticket items not so much. Perhaps you could do a feature wall in your Bosco Blue - and if you DIY it after handover, it will only cost the price of a can of paint and a day's work. Re: Doubting Interior Colour Selections....Please Help 15Jul 16, 2011 11:05 am Hi Rups, im glad i found your thread as I had a panic attack when I went past our place yesterday to see our walls being painted. We have basicly the same colour selection such as the parchment laminex cabinets and similr colour walls but I thought yesterday that is was too cream. But seeing on yours as well makes me feel so much better. I am not a blue white person thats why I went for the warmer whites. We did selections in Sep last year so 10 months ago and I couldnt remember half of them. Im sure it'll all look fantastic in the end. PS love the dark floors! Re: Doubting Interior Colour Selections....Please Help 16Jul 16, 2011 4:13 pm Hi, Thank you so much for your suggestions. It has really helped. Still not quite sure about the splashback but will keep thinking about it. Does anyone know if you can buy the splashback glass (green tinge one)? I might get a sample pot of our colour with the glass and look at it for a couple of weeks. Cheers Leanne How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at? Have you fully drawn down the loan? 5 11916 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7158 Thank you @. Tried to play with the facade models but the exact colour is not matching up. 2 3267 |
