Wasnt sure whether to post this here but thought the mods could move it if necessary Can you give me your opinion on these selections ... 400 x 400 mottled effect grey tiles on the bathroom floor and white rectified 600 x 300 tiles on the walls . There is no doubt in my mind that if you don't like it and I change the selections again .. the builder is going to be admitted into a special facility for stressed builders . No pressure . WARNING <to all builders>: if you see Mr and Mrs DL coming avoid them at all costs ... they change their minds frequently and cause undue stress. Re: Advice on bathroom tiles 2Jan 20, 2008 5:04 pm Hi DeeElle (in my best Mish voice)
I really like the floor tiles. They have a very natural stone like look to them. Should be a good practical floor tile. Match it with a good dark coloured grout. What do the bench-tops look like? Not sure about the wall tiles though. I'd try to match the size more in keeping with the floor tiles. Aren't the white tiles also available in 400mm or similar? Ash. The benchtops are ceasarstone ginger (4th pic). Very similar to the floor tile. I'm not sure if the wall tiles are available in a smaller size ... possibly .. I will have to check Its a bit of a contrasting look, but not a lot of colour which is why I posted it for advice . The floor tile is fairly busy so that adds some interest. I'm with you in having white on walls etc. I just would prefer walls tiles in 400mm too. BTW, are you going to have floor tiles as a skirting tile too? Looks nicer than starting wall tiles right from the floor. Ash. Ha! Looks like Mish is redundant! Re: Advice on bathroom tiles 5Jan 20, 2008 5:47 pm We were advised that the maximum sized tiles you should use for the floor was 300x300mm. Something to do with drainage slope around the drain and possible problems with larger tiles Re: Advice on bathroom tiles 6Jan 20, 2008 5:58 pm Cookiemonster We were advised that the maximum sized tiles you should use for the floor was 300x300mm. Depends on the tiler. It best to try and get all the tiles, wall and floor to match up with each other GROUT WISE or they can look a bit out of balance. Your selections look good, your cupboards and top are perfect with the wall and floor. It’s a keeper!!!!! Something to do with drainage slope around the drain and possible problems with larger tiles We had the same issue, we wanted 400x400 tiles to the wet areas, but settled for 330x330 because they could not/would not, use 400x400 tiles for the shower base??? I just thought that they would cut the tiles, but obviously there is another reason behind it??? Not sure... Re: Advice on bathroom tiles 11Jan 20, 2008 6:20 pm P……in the shower is correct…..Dy may have to choose a smaller tile in the same colour for her shower base. (MAY)
It all comes back to the fall of the drain hole, the size of the shower and as I said, depends on the tiler!!!! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Advice on bathroom tiles 13Jan 20, 2008 6:32 pm The builder has laid 400 x 400 on the floor of his wet areas in the display home. He sold the house a couple weeks after it opened but when we saw the wet areas we were keen to copy some of the selections.
The white wall tiles are 600 x 300 ... we are laying them horizontally. I agree that we will need to watch the grout lines or it might look a bit odd - however they are rectified tiles so M thinks this will reduce grout lines Ash - the darker floor tiles will go up one wall in the ensuite and up one entire wall (where the bath sits) in the bathroom. We are having tiled kickers (cupboards sit on hebel blocks) so the darker colour goes under the recessed cupboards (hope that makes sense). It looks like a semi floating cupboard It will be dark ... light and dark again ( ...if you get my drift). Thanks a million Michelle.... if only my builder realized that my selections depended on approval from my virtual community!! . He would probably pay you all to keep quiet. (MAY) It all comes back to the fall of the drain hole, the size of the shower and as I said, depends on the tiler!!!! We have a double shower in the ensuite & from what I understand this means we can stay with the 400 x 400 floor tiles. Upstairs ... now thats another matter Single shower .. but I'm pretty sure the builder will keep us away from the tiling place and come up with an alternative ... He told us it would be exactly the same so I'm assuming same tiles thru'out. Not sure why he will allow the 400x400 on the floor tho'. Re: Advice on bathroom tiles 17Jan 20, 2008 10:36 pm Interesting... we have the same tiles throughout - including both showers - which are standard 900x900, and were never told anything about not having large tiles in there. Our tiles are 450 x450 from memory (and I'm too lazy to go measure exactly).
Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Advice on bathroom tiles 19Jan 21, 2008 9:15 pm Looking good Al. If we lay horizontally (600) on the wall then we should be able to line the grout to every third floor tile (400). Hope that doesn't look too odd .. we really like the look of the tiles. Re: Advice on bathroom tiles 20Jan 21, 2008 9:21 pm As long as your line of grout lines up, that’s good.
Evert third tile will be fine.
