Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 28, 2011 9:31 pm I need some help with my bedroom nook/ a long expanse of empty wall.
Apologies to Ry35 for borrowing your link for the plan but I don't actually have a copy of the plan on this computer. http://www.southwest.com.au/~apples/house/houseplan-sized.jpg The bedroom I am talking about is the master. The nook I mean is in the bottom left hand corner of the plan and once I move my bed (to the other side) that entire wall under the bulk head will be emtpy. I am looking for some ideas of how I can enjoy these spaces intead of the bedroom looking very empty. Thanks Re: Help with my empty spaces 3Jun 29, 2011 2:10 am Hi Bel Unfortunately it wasn't on display as it was a promotional home and only going to be available for a limited amount of time. Sitting area did cross my mind but so has an built in desk/wall full of shelves/possible tv cabinet Here are some pictures (now that photobucket is playing nice which may give more of an idea) Just the bedroom plan showing how wide the nook is Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The nook and wall space (pre carpet/paint etc) - photo taken standing in doorway of room Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Built with RedInk Custom 5000 Key Handover 15/12/2009 Re: Help with my empty spaces 4Jun 29, 2011 7:29 am What about in the nook bit shelving like your own library with a comfy chair Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I have saved this image from one of the victorian builders as idea for my study - could work? http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e368/bel001/study.jpg Still not in. You could add a chair or even a small table and chairs, like in this pic: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ How do you envisage using the space? Quiet retreat, extra TV area, study space, total glamour dressing room, storage....? There are lots of options. Somewhere for favourite books, magazines. Fill it in with a shoe cupboard. A cupboard for extra handbags. I think it was made for the look of the facade and the inside space is just a bonus. I wouldn't want a computer in our bedroom. Is there a powerpoint - mobile charging area. Re: Help with my empty spaces 10Jun 29, 2011 1:22 pm I have a nook like that, mine is a little bit shallower, im going to put a shelf there (as there is a powerpoint there too) then a mirror and as mine is tight with space (i dont think I can fit a chair) I might even replace the shelf and make it a book / shoe spot Garden - viewtopic.php?f=19&t=44214&p=670323#p670323 Decorating - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=47218&p=715743#p715743 Re: Help with my empty spaces 11Jun 29, 2011 2:07 pm Thank you ladies you have given me lots to think about. I like that second dressing table set up kek. Shelves with books would be a little bit pointless at the moment as I have an entire wall full in the study/activity room at the back of the house. Plan fan no one sleeps that side, it's just me and I tend to sleep in the middle. I am moving the bed to the opposite wall within the next few days. Edit to add: Suh I like the idea of a nice chair with a throw but that still leave most of that wall empty. Kek I am picturing a combination of all of those things (which probably doesn't help haha) Built with RedInk Custom 5000 Key Handover 15/12/2009 Re: Help with my empty spaces 12Jun 29, 2011 3:38 pm lol. dont you love having the whole bed to yourself, I love sleeping in the middle! Dressing table would look great!! More storage is always great, it can be your stashdraw too, all the odd bits and bobs can go there Garden - viewtopic.php?f=19&t=44214&p=670323#p670323 Decorating - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=47218&p=715743#p715743 Re: Help with my empty spaces 13Jul 01, 2011 2:49 am I like this idea Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ But less stark/more fancy looking and the tv would be a lot smaller And yes Shon I do love it - but I never get cuddles in the middle of the night either So it's win/lose hahah Built with RedInk Custom 5000 Key Handover 15/12/2009 Re: Help with my empty spaces 14Jul 01, 2011 7:35 am I like the concept too - but I definitely agree that it's a bit stark... To do it on a budget, you could use long/low chests of drawers along the wall for your base units and still add shelves and/or a TV under the bulkhead. You could go for any style of drawers you fancy - French Prov, shabby, retro, modern - and then display pretty things on top and on the shelves. Re: Help with my empty spaces 16Jul 01, 2011 11:00 am That looks great! Lol, yes I miss cuddles when DP is away on work... but then i have the cat... who sits on my head Garden - viewtopic.php?f=19&t=44214&p=670323#p670323 Decorating - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=47218&p=715743#p715743 Re: Help with my empty spaces 17Jul 01, 2011 12:50 pm Hopefully I can utalise the carpentery skills of my housemate to help keep the costs down to. Also love the fact we are double brick houses because it means no hunting for the studs to secure stuff to the wall. Suh it's just a little bit to plain for me, I may as well leave the wall empty if I don't put anything on the shelves Have spent hours re-discovering the website www.houzz.com last night - but it should help with some other ideas I need to visualise for other parts of the house haha.
