Suggestion for new door colour, please

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but this seems to be the place to come for colour suggestions. We selected a colour for the front door which seemed OK at the time, (and maybe even in the photos below) but in real life looks a bit too "baby poo brown". (See photos).

Any suggestions for a replacement colour? The door faces west (in WA) so the builder will not allow black or similar dark colours, which otherwise may have suited. [FWIW, Other colours selected - interior colours are neutral and roof tiles are black].

Yep…that’s baby poo……………….nice big house though!

It’s a shame the builder has put a stop on dark colours; it’s going to make this a little hard to do.

Front doors should be darker than the walls, so he’s caused a problem.

I have to go out in an hour, so let’s see if anyone else can help you.

I will get back to you tonight or tomorrow, I need time to think about it as well.

why wont the builder let you paint it black or dark?

We have plenty of time for this - will probably do the repainting myself when we move in (next month - after 3.5 years!).

Mrs B - the external walls are painted Solver's "Milkshake" #2183 WH.

Albert, i'm sorry, but after handover, you take a paint brush and paint it in high gloss or better yet have it professionally painted in 2 pac gloss....
It will be stunning and look lovely with the black window frames.

Just my opinion.... we are thinking of doing the same with our place as they would not paint or warranty our front door if we selected black...
We will do it afterwards if the colour we chose does not suit....

if its just cos of potential fading cant you just sign something to say
we accept fading can occur and this is not bulders reponsibilty?

or is it more than just fading issue that im not getting?

The dark colours on doors exposed to the west (esp) cause the doors to heat, and expand. Over time, this causes them to warp - and the builder does not want to have to replace doors just because people selected the "wrong" colour.

Phoenix - you may be right. As I said, I will probably repaint them myself. I hoped I could get another suggestion which would be an improvement on the current look - especially for the housewarming party! If the doors warp after repainted, we will get the ones we wanted in the first place [which the builder would not allow - but that's another story].

If you consider re-painting after handover that would be great!

The most obvious colour choice for your doors would be black…………..which is why I’m NOT going to suggest that colour.

I would prefer to see and complementary colour scheme of lemon and purple. I see the eaves are the same colour as the doors are now.

My suggestion would be a deep Grey/Purple.

On the scale below you will see a colour called “Purple Lotus” this is similar to the colour I suggest. Don’t ask for that one though I got it off the net, and have no idea where or who’s it is!!!!

I'm no colour expert but could you not pick up the colour of the tiles on the balcony and math the door with them? I'm thinking, Turkish bread colour.
And re the west facing. nothing worse than a BLACK heat bank door pumping heat into the house in summer.

Something totally different, and quite striking (and probably expensive)....

I have seen examples of amazing metal doors at a home show display a few years ago. They make gates, doors, etc with different metals that they treat with acids & chemicals to create beautiful designs. I think the treated metals are then coated with a lacquer to preserve the effect.

Perhaps the existing doors could be clad in metals that are treated this way?

Hi - thanks to everyone for your suggestions! It really helps your "colourblind correspondent".

First, Michelle, you are right in that we thought it was a good idea to match the door with the eaves, but obviously this is an error we are now regretting. Thanks for your suggestion - here is the door in "purple lotus" [which has computer colour code #5C4D60 ]:

Royalblue - love that metal look but... would be too hot facing west; and also would get in too much trouble from my teenage daughter who already thinks my tastes are far too outrageous!

PS those tins on the balcony are not permanent ;-)

but were there for the guys who were staining the jarrah floors.

Funny how the door in purple lotus seems to be echoed by the tiles along the edge of the upper level. Maybe that's where Mish got it from?

Whatever colour doors you choose - leave that brown yuk you had out of it

Thanks - it makes it a lot easier to visualise the colours - especially for those with not much colour sense...

Here is with a colour that is darker - not sure if this is what you mean though (its the "dark basalt" one from your sample):
