Interior Decorating Lounge

I am really struggling to decorate our kitchen/dining/living area, all rooms are one big open space and I am really confused.
I love the colour red, and wanted to bring warmth into our house as its all pretty white and neutral, we also didn't want to much colour as our plans for outdoors will really make the family room feel homely.
My concerns: I loveee our dining room table and buffet table, love the timber as it brings colour, the tv cabinet seems to go with the dining room table however the bar stools are a different colour and really discourage me from keeping either the tv cabinet or the bar stools in this area, unsure. I am thinking of moving the tv cabinet to our front lounge, however worried it is far to big and will overtake our front lounge, and in all honesty my bf won't allow me to purchase a new tv cabinet haha, so I am stuck with the timber one for the mean time, i am thinking of change all handles on our buffet, hall table and tv cabinet so they are all the same and it feels more of a proper fit.
We have a large 6 seater black leather couch with red, cream and black cushion accents, I would really love to have a huge rug that will go underneath the couch and cover a large floor space. I would love to add a single seater couch into the room which will be a feature chair where i can sit and read under a lamp or comfortably sit with my laptop. When walking into the house in the dining room to the island bench there seems to be to much tiles, so i'd love to have the extra large rug to add the warmth and homely feel.
Very confused, need help on all things to add or change to create this room cosy, warm and feel loved where all three areas are clearly different however all go together as the one entertaining room!! I love modern contemporary, we would of love to have our tv wall mounted however we didn't add any extra studs for support, also our tv can not be moved from this area due to the foxtel cable being in this position.

You could add colour and texture with some soft/sheer style curtains over the blinds, it would break up all the white on the walls.
07-10-09 omg they have cut the block
14-05-10 we finally have the keys

or a nice pelmet if you dont want curtains. can add a bit of style and colour with out being a colour block out.
I think the wood looks fine, maybe a feature wall behind the tv might tie in nicely and stop the black and white feel? just my 2cents worth.

How about something red on the wall next to your pantry - maybe a poster with cooking words (I have no idea if such a thing exists) - in a black or white picture frame..... I see there's a red vase in the corner.
Pelmet - some red soft fabric just draped over the tracks could do for a while
A red something on the chest in the last photo - "ashtray", cloth, animal........
You've done a great job --- It all looks lovely could be less is more

Although your dark rug in front of your lounge is lovely, my thoughts would be to get 2 matching RED shag rugs for under the dining table and in front of your lounge. This will help break up all the tiles.
Then match that red with a reading lounge chair.
I think you’ve done a great job so far!

Thank you for all the awesome ideas!!
I would love to get pelmets, and add a sheer curtain however at this stage we are thinking of getting bi-fold doors for when we add our alfresco area outdoors.
WOW I absolutely love that chair!! Where do you suggest to place??? I'm worried have the tv cabinet off centre to the wall will look odd, however I would love to have that red chair on the right hand side of tv cabinet with a large floor standing pot with some sort of feature 'something' inside. We will eventually purchase a very large telly perhaps 55inch or something to go on the tv cabinet.
With the rug idea's, I like the idea of having a rug under the dining room table and also near the leather couch, is it best to ensure all of the leather couch can fit onto the rug or is it ok to have it just in the open area of the couch.
Beside the couch I am thinking of having a lamp table with a huge overhanging lamp, I would love to incorporate a coffee table of some sort, but unsure as to what would suit, I think if I add more timber, it will be forest overload :///

This is mine…..
Your rugs don’t need to sit under the legs of the lounge just as a fill in, in the space is fine. I’m getting my new one tomorrow I’ll show you when I get it what I’ve done with it.
Are you able to stand back at your kitchen bench and take a photo of the lounge area, I pretty much get the gist of the dining space.

I would paint one/two of the walls a darker colour/feature colour.
Like maybe the one behind the tv and the one where your doors are. This may bring the room in a bit and feel a bit more intaimate - we did this in our place - I will have to post a pic.
We didn't do it too dark - just enough to tell there was a different colour!

Yes…..you need some colour in this room. I think either a feature wall as sleven said on the wall of the TV, or possibly some art work in a block formation?
Check out kanvas art, excellent quality and framing. And yes the 2 red rugs are needed to define the 2 spaces and break up all the tiles. That maybe all you need in this room
My rug is supposed to be getting over locked today….but they tell me yesterday they are busy today…..not happy

Wallmount some artwork and perhaps a large mirror that will reflect some of your red hi-lights within the room.
Artwork with a blue-violet or yellow-green palette will expand the range of colour to make the scheme more interesting. Yellow-green artwork will resonate with your indoor plants and borrowed scenery in the windows. Blue-violet artwork will will open a dialogue with your red accents but would need a few more blue-violet elements within the room to pull it off.
So, the weakest area of your decoration are your walls. They're crying out for attention. Congrats on everything else, a fine job indeed

I agree with everyone about a feature wall looking good behind the tv. If it were my room I'd also put up a sheer curtain on the sliding door, concealed tab or silver eyelet and hung quite high as it will soften the room (I've done this in my living area/dining - it only covers part of the sliding door, more to soften and frame the door but looks good). Then I'd place a beautiful standing lamp maybe beside the tv unit in the corner to really warm up the room in the evenings. Your room's lovely, just needs the finishing touches, we can't wait to see how it turns out!
PS. Definitely check out Kanvas.com as we bought one of their products and very happy with it.

Here’s my new rug…….2 x 2 metres, yours could be a 2 x 3 meter, take measurements.
You can’t see, but a bit of the rug is actually under the legs of the chaise.
