Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 19, 2011 10:34 am After two-and-a-half years, we've finally got our new couch for the family room. This room was down the list of priorities a-ways, because we had furniture that did the job (even though it was awful ), and we were focusing on other things first. But now that the couch is in place, I can start the fun part - decorating! I've had my plan in mind for quite some time - I even called in an expert to help me with the design stuff last year, and I'm really happy with what she came up with. Here's my inspiration board: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is how the room looked before, daggy old navy couches and all: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And this is my colour palette.... I'm keeping an eye out for the perfect leather ottoman (a harder task than you might think, since I'm not prepared to spend $900), and a funky cabinet to replace the current TV unit (we might even find something worth shipping home while we're in Thailand in October ). I have fabric for new cushion covers, so should have those done shortly. I'll post a progress pic when I've done a bit more. What a different a light colored couch makes, kind of brightens the whole room. Cant wait to see the mirror and art work. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. I know what I like and what I'd like to buy for our place....just not at the right price Re: FINALLY decorating my family room 7Jun 19, 2011 12:10 pm hi kek, gorgeous room, the couch looks beautiful!!! I can see how it really ties the room together. Good idea with a mirror, I'd throw a rug down too... but that's just me.!! A thankful person is a happy person. So I bought three (two for the lounge). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I don't want a black shade, but it doesn't come in any other colours, so I'm going to re-cover it in white. It has a silver reflective lining, which means no light comes through the shade anyway, so covering it in a lighter fabric won't be a drama. They didn't actually have any stock and it's a discontinued line, but they've ordered them from another store, so they'll be in next week. Still haven't hung my mirror. Better hop to it! Re: FINALLY decorating my family room 12Jun 19, 2011 4:40 pm I know! Don't tell hubby they still cost $99 each - he'd think that was a lot. I figure $297 for three lamps that would normally have cost $507 is a bargain. I just hung the mirror and my frames, with black and white prints of my artwork, just run off on my printer. I'll probably get a chance to have them printed properly this week sometime, but I couldn't wait. Impatient, much? The lamp proportions are wrong (but I have a possie in mind for it) and the round ottoman will break up the squareness of everything else in the room. Plus we need to replace the over-large speakers with something less obtrusive, and place the silver vases on the TV unit. Which is a bit short anyway. My decorator's advice was spot-on. I also had her do me a plan for the lounge, and I'm working on that too. New chairs are coming this week sometime.
