No paint anywhere even up the brush handle…but yes I always manage to get it in my hair also, even though I pull it back. Seems I like to stick my head into it. We start our new reno project in 5 weeks and my daughters wedding is in 9 weeks so I'm particularly worried. Don't want to have mother of the bride (with painted hair) photos. She'll kill me. Everyone else is used to it. They just say "painting again?" I wish I'd kept all those disposable hair nets from hotels now. Re: PAINT FINISHES 23Aug 02, 2010 5:36 pm MissVintage Hello - something I thought I would add. I was almost ready to get a painter in to do all my door frames and window sills after three paint shops told me just how hard high gloss acrylic paint was to use. High Gloss Acrylic is not as hard to use as the paint stores make out! Yes, you do very very light coats and lots of them at least 24 hours appart. the paint will actually flatten if you dont put to much on and then just a light sand in between. I find a good quality small paintbrush works best and if you want a really smooth finish I add a teny tiny bit of metho into the mix and stir. Oh and have lots of metho handy to clean up afterwards as this stuff will not come off in water and is nearly impossible to get out of hair! I agree with that and don't let the painters/paint shops talk you into AquaGloss ... it is NOT the same as the High Gloss Enamel. Yes it's easier to paint with but the finish is no where near as glossy and if you get alot of sun on your doors (like we did at our last place) the paint begins to 'wear' (can't think of the right word) and looks terrible ... very patchy. High Gloss Enamel all the way for me. And the walls ... we had the house repainted a couple of times, once the painter used the Dulux 101 wash n wear satin finish and it was great to clean dirty little hand marks off, but it showed alot of the imperfections in the walls of a not new house, next paint job the painter used Taubmans Living Proof Silk ... it was perfect. Very easy to clean off but just that little bit less shiney than the Dulux and didn't show the imperfections as much. Both paints were perfect to withstand the wrath of a small dog, big cat, two toddlers and one tween who feels the need to hold up all the walls where ever she stands And now that I've shared my opinion, I'm off to search for fly poo on my ceiling! Edited to fix up my mistake in naming of the paint type. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: PAINT FINISHES 24Aug 02, 2010 11:17 pm Hey all Some interesting choices Michelle no fly poo on my ceilings though I know a fair bit about Coatings (actually I know too much) so if you have a question I should be able to answer it or help you out It can be/is very confusing as you have colour choice then product choice, sheen level, water based-oil based etc here are my tips regarding what and where Ceilings - Ceiling white(Ultra flat) to all ceiling areas except bathroom and laundry even with fly poo (if that is a concern) it can be touched up with minimal sheen difference due to the ultra flat paint Bathrooms and laundry - Satin/Semi gloss (Walls and Ceiling) better moisture resistance and can have a higher mould resistance ( you can get a Low sheen product too but coating performance is not as good IMO) Walls - Low sheen superior hiding of wall imperfections and good stain resistance Now just be aware there are different kinds if grime and the different brands tackle certain types One major brand has Superior water based stain resistance (wine, etc) while another has Superior Oil based stain resistance( finger marks etc) Most common stains are oil based so it made my choice easy (PM me for the products if you want to know) both can handle the others stain resistance but to a lesser degree Interior Trims, windows, and Doors - Satin/Semi-gloss or High Gloss ENAMEL Thats right OIL based enamel wash it up with TURPS Hard wearing, and smooth and does not flex like a Water based Gloss Sure clean up is a pain in the bum but the finish is superior Now also remember that there are varying levels of product every paint manufactuer has a Ultra premium Premium Trade Premuim Trade Budget plus Speciality finishes too So buy Ultra Premium regardless as it will be easier to apply, easier to clean, and look absolutely professional for any DIYer Also if you want the best advice face to face, Avoid big box Hardware stores and go to a Paint specific retailer (Bristol, Dulux, Taubmans, Wattyl, Luxury etc) you dont have to buy there but they should give the right advice first time So many times I have helped a customer in a Big Box hardware store as the guy/girl behind the counter had no idea whilst I was buying paint for my own projects I went outside once. The graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked! Settlement:22nd June Slab:27th August Frame:16th Sept Bricked:21st Oct Roof:24th Nov Linings HANDOVER23rd March! Was a nightmare to get even! Back to Taubmans Ultranamel (i think that 's the name) and the finish was excellent! Re: PAINT FINISHES 28Aug 03, 2010 6:21 pm tjilpi Will 'White' oil based enamel always yellow over time or is there some new fangled product that doesnt? It will yellow over time unfortunately It will take awhile though but increased toughness and hardness is the trade off I went outside once. The graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked! Re: PAINT FINISHES 29Aug 15, 2010 8:59 pm Would a semi or full gloss enamel be best for the garage walls? I want the gloss enamel as its easy to clean. Re: PAINT FINISHES 30Aug 15, 2010 10:47 pm I would not paint enamel on the walls of a garage Firstly I will yellow very quicky due to the lack of UV light entering the area Secondly it will gas you out LOL If you are looking for something washable use a Semi gloss or Satin acrylic superior washablity but a good Ultra premium low sheen can do the trick if it is just dirty marks I went outside once. Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7171 Thank you.
