Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 06, 2011 5:50 pm A few short years ago we purchased a dining setting from Nick Scali which contained what we now know to be bonded leather chairs. The coverings have all failed because the bonded "faux" leather has deteriorated. The chairs were on the way out in less than two years. Anyone else out there had similar problems? Re: Bonded Leather Furniture 3Jun 07, 2011 8:27 am That's a shock, I thought Nick Scali would have better quality furniture than to only last a few years. Sure pay enough for it. I hate when people put the word 'leather' into something that is not genuine - makes it sound like it would last, like 'Pleather'. I guess its its clever marketing but its also deceiving. Was thinking of getting a swivel chair in pressed metallic leather from there, may need to have another look. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Bonded Leather Furniture 4Jun 07, 2011 8:47 am You need to ask if it is all leather. We have an all leather lounge that's in perfect condition after 2 years, we also have vinyl bar stools that are in perfect condition. It probably won't happen to all of leather/vinyl mix products, but as I said it's not UNcommon. I didn't think Nick Scali would have had anything but the real deal either. Re: Bonded Leather Furniture 5Jun 07, 2011 9:30 am Our Nick Scali chairs were sold as "real leather" now they use the term "bi-cast" leather which is the same stuff. The leather is shredded, mixed with who kows what and glue and finally coated with something like a vinyl. None of it will last. For those with two year old stuff just wait another two!! Yes we are very disappointed with the Nick Scali response ... tuff luck .. you can't prove our staff fibbed! Re: Bonded Leather Furniture 7Jun 23, 2011 9:34 pm If you're considering buying leather and want some info, there's an article in my blog here http://loveneedhave.blogspot.com/2011/03/lovely-leather.html that gives a breakdown of some different leather styles and what to look out for when buying leather. I remember a story about Nick Scali on either A Current Affair or Today Tonight (or both ). I think they were ordered to change their advertising. So they must of had it proved they were doing the wrong thing. I love their styles. Their staff were spray painting parts of the furniture to make it look better and all sorts of stuff, the furniture just didn't last and people were sending things back and it was coming back worse. That might explain the really bad smell near the back door one time we went to look. I would of thought it was a neighbouring business premises like a car repair shop or something only there's nothing like that near them. |
