Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 05, 2011 2:04 am Hi There I need some inspiration for decorating my new lounge. Here goes... The room is very square shaped painted all in magnolia. We have light beige carpets with a darker deep pile rug with a mirrored glass coffee table. Our fireplace is white with an oval dish and white coal. We have a black TV above the fireplace. My question is what colour curtains? My boyfriend fancies dark curtains with a hint of red but Im not sure as does that mean we will need to add red accessories around the room? We haven't bought an accessories yet. Oh and also we haven't bought a sofa yet as not sure what colour either? Any help would be gratefully received and photos would be great Thanks so much x Re: Help with interior designing for my lounge? 2Jun 05, 2011 10:42 am Hi Angela, Is it possible for you to post some pictures of your lounge room? It just makes it easier for us to give suggestions when we can see it! Not sure what colour 'Magnolia' is. Is there an online sample of the paint colour? How many windows are there in the space? Where are they in relation to the fireplace? Photos would help us a great deal! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Re: Help with interior designing for my lounge? 5Jun 06, 2011 10:38 pm I think your BF's idea is great! and just a touch of red, or orange, or whatever colour in the curtain fabric you find, that you like, is a great idea. The room sounds like it needs a touch of some colour anyway. You only have to have one cushion with "that" colour in it, and the rooms co-oridinates anyway because the cream and black is neutral in that form. Sounds great. Sparz - wow - what a great recommendation post!!! colours n' all. Puts you to shame Stormy!! haha A thankful person is a happy person. It's the landlord's dream colour - it always looks good. The fireplace there is white, as are the tiles around it and the skirting and architraves. I'll see if I can dig out the picture my letting agent sent me when they'd finished my flat. Gawd bless Ikea - it meant I could shop for furniture and furnishings in Oz then have someone buy it in the UK and know it was going to be identical. I went with white curtains and a green sofa and chairs. The lounge room gets amazing sunlight so I wanted to accentuate it with light curtains. What kind of look are you going for? What kind of feel do you want the room to have? Magnolia is quite a pink cream so can be very forgiving and complimentary with the right kind of red, I just wouldn't go for the blue-er reds. If you had red curtains I agree you'd want to accessorise with *something* red but not too much or it starts to look a bit twee and contrived - perhaps a touch of it in a cushion or two that brings the rug colour together with the curtains. Alternatively I do love all the natural stone colours with magnolia and if you have a beige carpet already that might fit in very well.
