Re: Recommend me a kitchen cupboard colour 2Jan 13, 2008 5:07 pm Hi Mark, nice selections!!!
I'm probably stepping on Michelle's feet here, but what else will you have in that area? eg. Furniture colours and wall colours? Can you upload a plan of the area to give us a better idea of what sort of space we are talking about?? Mark, that is a very nice timber floor! (Almost as nice as a carpet) Hey, in our kitchen, we have silky oak cupboards. The doors are flat with splayed edges, and the silky oak veneer is wrapped around all edges. Ours has a 2 pack lacquer on it. Looks modern, beautiful and very classy. We have sheoak floorboards in kitchen, brushed stainless steel kickboards, splashback and appliances. Our benchtops are DuPont Corian 'Sierra Aurora' Not sure if silky oak is available these days. Ours came from Tasmania. It would go with your floors nicely, I'd think. Ash. Re: Recommend me a kitchen cupboard colour 4Jan 13, 2008 5:36 pm Mark, have double-checked your blog....i like the charcoal grey that is pictured....I think it will look stunning against the timber floor and the white c/stone and splashbacks.....
But again it depends on your furniture and paint selections??? Re: Recommend me a kitchen cupboard colour 5Jan 13, 2008 6:24 pm So what’s wrong with the colours on your blog Mark?
They look good, and that’s one mighty fine kitchen as well! Other alternatives are, 1) Gloss white, for a bright open space. 2) Chocolate / mocha – which could be the colour in your blog. 3) Deep grey 4) Deep red…to be out there! In actual fact you could use any colour at all, whatever takes your fancy, your bench top is neutral, so you don’t have a colour restraint. Personally I like the one in your blog!!! It looked greyish to me.... Still, it looks lovely though.... Maybe that's Mark's problem though, too many options available, and unable to lock in one??? Re: Recommend me a kitchen cupboard colour 7Jan 13, 2008 6:33 pm Yes that becomes a problem.... Can you upload a plan of the area to give us a better idea of what sort of space we are talking about?? White walls, furniture will be bought to suit. Here's the floorplan.. sorry for the poor quality.. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We're worried the colour on the blog is a bit dark and won't contrast nicely with the floor. The kickboards will be the same colour as what we choose for the cupboards. Do you think this colour would work (Dulux Endless Dusk)? I think it would make the kitchen look stunning and make the c/stone a real feature.... BUT..... I think i will leave the answer to this question to Michelle (the expert) Sorry... Re: Recommend me a kitchen cupboard colour 10Jan 14, 2008 6:48 am Mark….yes, the Endless Dusk will work fine! Nice colour.
I agree about the darkness of the one in your blog, it looks fantastic but I personally like a bright airy kitchen. It will look great with your flooring as well. This is the best advice I can give you but ultimately the final choice has to be up to you! First, I think you both need to do some homework, go to a kitchen display centre and see what is available, go to a few if you have to. This will help you both to decide what colours you like and what you don’t like. This narrows down your selections, a process that needs to be done. Secondly, you will need to establish how much natural light your kitchen will get, and do you have enough task lighting going in over the benches for night use. I see on your floor plan one kitchen window, looks a good size but still not enough to add adequate lighting for a dark selection for cupboards. So from this I can safely say the dark one in your blog will probably not be what you are looking for! You will end up with quite a dark kitchen on overcast days and at night! Although it looks good, it will be dark. So that eliminates dark colours for you. Now, looking at the style of your home from your blog, black windows….which will have a lot to do with the internals of your home as well! I have thought about it all, and to me your cupboards need to blend and complement the lovely timber floor you have so this is what I have chosen. But again the final choice is yours. The colour is Dulux “Blind Date” P11.B3 This will look great with your floors; still light enough for your kitchen and dark enough to let the C/stone be a feature. By the way the stone sample is not c/stone …looks like I gave my sample of the snow away!!! But it gives you the colour variance for the photo. Let me know your thoughts.
