Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 28, 2011 1:43 pm Our main bedroom is one of our last rooms that needs curtains/new furnishings/furniture. We have two young children (4 and 2) and for years (and years) have lived with no curtains, a mismatch of furniture and an old doona cover. It is time to do some work on it but I'm not sure where to start. Our style is contemporary and the colour of the walls will be staying a couple of shades lighter of the Dulux Flaxen(green) colour. The other colours in our house are Vanessa Mae (purple/grey), Moray (green), Ecru and Self-destruct. The bedroom is light and airy and has french windows with a window seat and windows behind the bed. Some suggestions on where to start - curtains - what style and colour? furniture - colour and a good place to buy? fabric or wooden bed head? rugs? pictures/paintings? bed linen? furnishing the window seat? We really have nothing We have built in wardrobes but would like new side tables and a large drawer set and bed head, curtains etc French windows at the side of the room http://www.flickr.com/photos/25438149@N06/5767060074/ Wall and window behind the bed http://www.flickr.com/photos/25438149@N06/5767058406/ The floor is timber (mid brown) and we live in Brisbane TIA Susan Re: Need help with the bedroom 2May 30, 2011 7:04 pm Brissmith….can you post a couple of photos of your room? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Need help with the bedroom 5Apr 15, 2012 3:16 pm Thanks for your offer to help. Taken me ages to get back to this. The room measures 3500 x 4500 Has a set of windows (Post war Queensland style) behind the bed. On the RHS has a bay window with a window seat. Other wall has build-in wardrobes. The bed can only go in one position which is in front of the set of windows. The ceiling has beautiful plasterwork. The floors are timber. My husband likes simple, not fussy but I'd like to have a spot of colour coming through somewhere (he likes brown, I like strong pinks, purples, oranges, red). Doesn't like geometrics, flowers ok but likes "viney" patterns. I can sew so can make a quilt throw or cushion covers. Elsewhere in the house we have grey/purples, oranges. I'd like something 'slightly' romantic without being overly fussy or frilly. I've put a few ideas under a pininterest http://pinterest.com/ssmith_au/bedroom-ideas/ Hopefully that link will work here's some pics Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ P1030484 by ssmith_au, on Flickr Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ P1030029 by ssmith_au, on Flickr Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ P1030486 by ssmith_au, on Flickr I need to start from scratch so would love ideas for furnishings, furniture, everything! And whatever we get needs to be 'child' friendly so I think a white bedspread would be out. TIA Susan Re: Need help with the bedroom 6Apr 16, 2012 6:03 am Flaxen half.....is this your colour? But I couldn't go past the Jimmy Possum website and their room set ups. So I've used one of their pics as inspiration for you. I hope you like it. That is wonderful inspiration. I love Jimmy Possum - but out of our budget range probably. The curtain fabric by Warwick - is that from their current range? I had a look on their website but couldn't see it. I'll have to take a trip into their store. Re: Need help with the bedroom 16Apr 20, 2012 7:14 pm My pleasure! I got the fabric from Warwick's website, so I guess its current. That's a beautiful window seat window you have there. . I'm jealous of your ceiling features too. Are you creative at all? I think I would make a DIY headboard, which went as high as the window sill but came up a bit higher at the sides (over the bedside tables). .. Michelle. . . would that look crappy? I wouldn't try to hide the window at all. .. I might even make a really thick headboard (maybe 150mm thick), to make a real statement. I'm in the middle of making a headboard. .. easy peasy! Re: Need help with the bedroom 19Apr 21, 2012 6:42 am jodge.....if the bed stays where it is under the window, I don't recommend a headboard at all. Once curtains are put at the window, that's all that will be needed there. Brissmith....see if you can make some matching bed cushions from the curtain fabric.
