I think I would make a DIY headboard, which went as high as the window sill but came up a bit higher at the sides (over the bedside tables). .. Michelle. . . would that look crappy? I wouldn't try to hide the window at all. .. I might even make a really thick headboard (maybe 150mm thick), to make a real statement. I'm in the middle of making a headboard. .. easy peasy! Once curtains are put at the window, that's all that will be needed there. Brissmith....see if you can make some matching bed cushions from the curtain fabric.
