Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 21, 2011 7:40 pm I am really upset over this and in a bit of a dilema. I choose white for my glass splashback and had it fitted the other day and it has a real bluey tinge to it more like the sky. This is not the colour I wanted. My kitchen cabinets are very white and I wanted the splash to be the same. Where did I go wrong in choosing this white? Re: Why is my white splashback sky blue 2May 21, 2011 7:43 pm It won't be the colour of the paint - it will be the glass. "Clear" glass still has the lead in it - where as "Starfire" glass is pure clear which is what you would need to see the true colour of the paint you chose. If there is light colour underneath, it changes the colour. To get the exact colour to come through, the glass needs to be starfire (or low iron), which means there is no tinge at all. This glass is more expensive. Edit too slow... or what sleven said! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Or better yet a sample pot? Get a sample pot, paint a piece of board up... should be pretty much the same. If the colour isn't the same, either they've used normal glass, or they've used the wrong colour. If it is the same, then there's not much you can do. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Re: Why is my white splashback sky blue 12May 21, 2011 10:19 pm I'd certainly be asking questions of the supplier. Have you paid the invoice yet? I'd hold off until you get a satisfactory answer. Does anyone know how to tell if the glass is starfire or non-starfire (besides a bluey/green tinge). Let us know how you get on with it. Chris Re: Why is my white splashback sky blue 14May 22, 2011 12:11 am If it's not what you paid for or wanted, then I'd expect him to take it back and refund your money. If it is something you are going to be miserable about every time you see it, then it's worth fighting for. If it is merely an annoyance, but the overall kitchen still looks great, then maybe you can live with it. If it isn't what you ordered though, I wouldn't stand for it. Find out if there is anyway you can tell exactly what type of glass and colour were used if you don't believe them. Independent verfication would be what is required rather than relying on the expertise of those who manufactured/installed it. Good luck. Re: Why is my white splashback sky blue 16May 22, 2011 11:20 am kyton Could it be reflecting off some other surface? Is there large windows around / a pool outside / blue furniture close by? Just a thought? No there is absolutely nothing that reflects blue. I have a window which is 1500x1100 and I have the splash either side of that and the splash goes all the way up the back of the rangehood. Altogether it is not a lot of glass about 6 sq mtrs. Thankyou to everyones input into this I really appreciate your feedback and it helps when I have to speak to the manager tomorrow. Re: Why is my white splashback sky blue 18May 22, 2011 4:20 pm Pearl, I really feel for you. We all love our kitchens, and try to design and decorate them to please us since we spend so much damn time in there! If I were you I'd push and push till they fix the problem by replacing it. I'd ask them also to show you a sample of glass with the paint applied to it so you can check it's the right looking white. It definitely sounds like they may have accidently used normal glass. Good luck. I’m just in the process of replacing 2 stud walls that have been severely damaged by termites and am planning to use h2 blue pine. I just wanted to if anyone can advise… 0 52851 6 11528 That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17776 |
