Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 18, 2011 7:17 pm Hi there I desperately need some fast help, if anyone is willing....? We have just renovated our entire house and the painters are doing the inside in a week. I don't want to make a decision I will regret if I don't put the effort in on the paint decision. I know I should get a colour consultant out quickly but seriously haven't got time with my job at the moment. I know what I want (to describe it, see below) but just need someone who knows about interior paint colours to give me some advice. It is a federation restoration with some bold elements like Florence Broadhurst wallpaper behind our glass splashback in the kitchen and a black gloss oven! Basically, I want the paint to be interesting and contrast enough to be different but not so dark that it's shocking when you walk in. It is a small cottage with massive skirtings and cornices. These will all be in Antique White USA, along with the ceiling. I had thought Light Rice at full strength on the walls until my painter said it might be too dark. Basically - is he saying that because it is unusual or because it really will be too dark. The former I am OK with, the latter not so much! I have noticed someone on this forum mention 'Buff It'. What we want is a latte colour. Not too yellow/beige or pink but really a true warm brown colour 'watered down' so to speak. A 'milky' latte! Outside we have Warm Neutral 150% and Antique White USA. I do wish the warm neutral was darker now, but that battle has already been lost as it's too late! Can anyone help me with this one?! Thanks Re: Light Rice or Buff It 2May 18, 2011 8:40 pm Hi. We have Buff It 1/2 strength on all our walls, with a couple of feature walls. I'm amazed how its strength is really affected by which room and what kind of light hits it. I actually find it too light, almost white looking in our wide hall which gets mostly light from the south. Yet in our main lounges which get northern light it seems slightly richer looking and a little warmer. Actually, when I've held up my colour chip to the wall, I could swear it's between 1/2 and 1/4 strength but anyway... If I could do it over I'd probably go for something slightly warmer like the Light Rice. If your rooms are spacious, I'd say go with Light Rice full strength! Re: Light Rice or Buff It 3May 19, 2011 4:10 pm Thanks Pauline. I am also worried about it being too pink or too yellow/beige. I am really after a true coffee colour (brown) watered down. In your opinion do you think the Buff It is more like that or the 'light rice'? Re: Light Rice or Buff It 4May 19, 2011 7:31 pm To me it has more of a slightly grey undertone than anything, and I think the Light Rice tends more towards having a very slight yellow/beige undertone if anything but they are very similar, just the Buff It's slightly cooler. I just think full strength would be more pleasing as I don't like the "nearly white" look of 1/2 strength on my own walls, but we won't be repainting for awhile! Let us know what you decide on. Even check out other brands as they all have lovely pale beige/browns. Re: Light Rice or Buff It 5May 19, 2011 7:52 pm If you are looking for a warm brown, then Buff It is the colour for you…..and no not too dark for internals. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Hi - thanks for your reply. Yes I think 'Ill go for whitish with very speckly bits rather than pure white something like this. Did you discuss the wet area near the trampoline? 16 17287 It might be a bit darker in the mornings but the light is still light, so you should be getting it.
