Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge Re: Minimalism & Colour choices 3Jan 10, 2008 6:56 pm mek Well hello from me, I only have white and grey in my house and a tiny bit of red and definitely no clutter. My kitchen still looks like it did before they finished building (no nick-nacks anywhere). I even hid the fridge. I know what you mean by being confused by all the magazines out there. They don't cater for this "style" enough. What colours are you thinking about? Hi Mek, like you we are leaning towards white walls and grey flooring. Tiling for floors on ground level (except dining/lounge - carpet there, also grey), and carpet upstairs. But thats were it ends for us. We get lost when it comes to the bedroom colours and bathroom colours. I know white and grey are 'safe'. What about taupe colours for the bathroom? What colour scheme did you do for your bathrooms Mek? We are having floor to wall tiling, but I don't want border tiles - I think they can date a bathroom. Re: Minimalism & Colour choices 4Jan 10, 2008 8:01 pm My bathrooms look exactly like my kitchen (Laminex Charcoal), even down to the handles. Tiles are stone grey and white, just plain, no borders or anything. Not entirely happy with the way bathooms look (don't like 30x30 tiles) but not much I can do now. I have white and red towels etc.
Are you thinking of introducing a completely different colour scheme in your bathrooms/bedrooms (to the rest of the house) with taupe? Are you choosing greys because they are safe or because you like them? I always thought browns were safe but I love grey so just had to go with it. P. S. A great book that I borrowed from the library - Minimalism and Colour by Patricia Bueno. It's great. Re: Minimalism & Colour choices 5Jan 10, 2008 8:16 pm Hi Basaad,
Have you considered consulting a good interior decorator to do a colour board for you. You would have to find a decorator who specialises in modern design and can show you examples of their work. It is not expensive and very worth while. Have a read of this thread if you havent already. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=3380 Just another option to consider Mrs B ps...you couldnt possibly have more house books than me...I lend them out to friends as if I am a library Re: Minimalism & Colour choices 6Jan 10, 2008 8:28 pm mek My bathrooms look exactly like my kitchen (Laminex Charcoal), even down to the handles. Mrs B Re: Minimalism & Colour choices 7Jan 10, 2008 9:06 pm Mrs B - I think that because of the plain colours, 30x30 just makes no statement whatsoever - I like what ladyice did with tiles in her bathroom, plain colour but stunning to look at because of the size of the tiles.
Actually, I've never seen any 30x30 tiles that I liked, whatever the colour. But of course that's just my opinion. Strange as always. A great book that I borrowed from the library - Minimalism and Colour by Patricia Bueno. It's great. Love the sound of the stone grey and white! But I also like dark brown timber cabinetry - thinking of doing 'some' of this in the kitchen - not entirely because it might make the kitchen look too grey and 'heavy'. What do you think? With white Ceaserstone benctops. And that's about where my vision gets lost - I cant get past the kitchen. I need to have a clearer idea of what I want the bathrooms to look like. Back the books I dare say. Going to head off to the library to get a hold of that book you suggested, and any others I can devour. And as for tile size....you've just thrown another spanner in the works. I hadn't even thought about tile size, other than the fact that I know that 'bigger' is more xpensive to lay. This building thing is proving a bit depressing at the moment. Re: Minimalism & Colour choices 9Jan 10, 2008 9:21 pm For kitchen ideas, check out Varenna by Poliform, Boffi, Bontempi and Poggenpohl. The one thing to remember is clean lines & clean colours. To create a true minimalist look, means doing what you have said you are going to do……NO CLUTTER, not a lot of furniture, everything in a minimalist home has a purpose, nothing is there just to fill an empty spot. Less is best. And soooo much easier and faster to clean! The only clutter in this room is the line of potted plants on the window ledge. Which doesn’t need to be there as the garden outside creates a great vista.
