If at all possible, that’s correct. I would get rid of the half blue and border. That looks dated. But a bigger problem is you have blue curtains with brown carpet and furniture. The two don't go together. So if you can change the curtains, do it otherwise it will be a hard choice what you paint on the walls. And i'm not too convinced you even need a feature wall given the space and items in the room. Re: Colour for feature wall in lounge room? 10May 12, 2011 6:15 pm Hi, it's hard to really imagine the room with only seeing angles of it, but I'd keep the main colour fairly light which should definitely open up the room as the 1/2 blue, 1/2 cream might be making the room feel smaller at the moment. I would also really really declutter - you'll be glad you did as that will make a big difference to the room too. I think a brown or amethyst would work as a feature colour but it should be used for a wall that's fairly unobstructed. I don't know, maybe the tv wall would work depending on your furniture layout. You could then also bring that colour into cushions or a lovely throw rug. If a room is small I always believe in blending the curtains (drapes) with the wall colour to maintain the spacious feel. You know, you could check out the ready-to-hem curtains at Spotlight as you'd only need to cut and sew the hem, so they would be better value than the pre-packaged, also more colour options. I'm no expert here, but I hope my suggestions might help you. Show us what you end up doing. Also, check out this website for inspiration (I love this site!): www.homehound.com.au/home+style/ Re: Colour for feature wall in lounge room? 11May 13, 2011 12:56 am Hi,thanks for your opinions guys-I know I need to seriously declutter-my son has way too many toys-I really need a bigger house for all my stuff but thats not gonna happen-I could change the curtains further down the track when Ive saved some money-Ive spent the last few days sanding back the blue suede paint and have put an undercoat over the walls-so its all ready to paint just cant decide on colours-I did see some lovely cushions in Target today-I know the blue and cream is outdated i did it over 10yrs ago-what colour curtains would u suggest to go with the brown carpet? Could u hand sew the Spotlight curtains as I dont own a sewing machine, thanks again! Re: Colour for feature wall in lounge room? 12May 13, 2011 9:18 am I'm pretty sure Spotlight sell curtains by the metre with magic hems that you just cut to size and iron the folded edges. I got some great deals with readymade curtains at Big W, Curtain Wonderland and Spotlight - just wait for sales (they have them all the time). You could use eyelet curtains with those rods too. Eyelets have less fabric than pencil or pinch pleat ones so are generally much cheaper as readymades. In your shoes I would search around for some readymade curtains that I liked that matched the carpet and put those in, then paint the walls to suit. I tend to agree with the others that the room may not be open enough for a feature wall - perhaps make the curtains the feature? Another thing to consider - hanging the photos on the wall in a big group to make a picture wall - decluttering and making a feature for your room all at once! Re: Colour for feature wall in lounge room? 13May 13, 2011 9:23 am Check on ebay for curtains as well. You can get some nice brands (such as Gummerson) in ready made form. And occasionally, if you look regularly, you can get really high quality second hand ones when people redecorate. Worth having a look and could save you heaps. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
