Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 41Jan 12, 2008 10:36 am Hi Michelle.
My wife and I are having quite an argument about the kitchen. My wife really wants a all white kitchen, and I want a timber kitchen. No help there in the argument I'm sure, but I said yes to an all white kitchen, but only if the benchtops are dark in color. She wants all white cabinets with a very light colored benchtop, probably Ceasarstone 40 mm in Raw Silk. I am opposed to this as I think it will look very plain and boring. We have not selected flooring yet, but my wife wants timber (real) throughout the ground floor including the kitchen, which I am happy with. We are liking Sydney Blue gum for the floor, or something similar. So I guess what I'm looking for is what would be a good combination for kitchen colors if the kitchen was timber and ceasarstone with Sydney Bule gum floors, and what would be a good combination if the kitchen was all white and blue gum floors? I like real quality timber better than laminex and other man made finished products. I think timber will last longer and has a long lasting beauty to it that doesn't date like the colors of the more manufactured stuff. Thanks! Greg Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 42Jan 12, 2008 10:48 am Hi gpierce,
When we built, we went through a similar debacle. We ended up going light/light for the kitchen and timber floors. Part of the reasoning for going light/light was because we had other furniture built in the same area and wanted to make sure the light colours gave the room a nice lift. I’ll try and hunt up some photos to give you an idea. EDIT: Okay I found some photos when we were building, I hope this works This is a combined kitchen, meals, family area. Heres my thoughts on a kitchen…..the kitchen is the hub of the home; this is where most activity happens, and where we usually spend time catching up with other members of the family. It needs to be appealing but most of all functional. A white kitchen will never date; it will always be fresh and appealing. Timber kitchens tend to have a country look about them, even if they are not designed to a country style. If you’re new home is a modern plan, I would tend to stay with the all white, and timber floors. It won’t look to bring, as you then get to add colour throughout, because you have a crisp white to work with. Timber tends to make a space darker, with timber floor and cabinets, you can be assured your kitchen will be darker no matter how may windows or natural light you have coming in to that space. I am, unofficially, insane. I must be, 'coz I want our main colour to be WHITE in our home, with an accent colour throughout. Now, we have mid-tone county-style furniture, so I was wondering, considering such a tone of furniture, and a kitchen and furnishings in white, what might be an interesting accent colour? The colours we DON'T like are: yellow, pink and black. Blues, aqua-marines and browns are our faves. How can we incorporate such accents into our home? Ktichen benchtops? Cushions? Rugs? Wall stencils? Aaahhhh....so many queries, so little time.... Fiona Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 48Jan 12, 2008 8:57 pm dna......
1. WC vanity doors – Same selection as your kitchen…..and I can’t remember what that was??? 2. Laundry cabinet doors – same as kitchen 3. Laundry benchtop - Did you check out the “Pebble Brook” yet” Remember….the whole 3 spaces are visually seen, so they should be of the same selections. ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 49Jan 12, 2008 9:14 pm ![]() Michelle, How can we incorporate such accents into our home? Since you have country style furniture I would stick with blues. NOT BABY BLUES!!! Like this one…… Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ But don’t just stick to blues only, your colours will evolve has you progress with your decoration, now is not the time to stress about it. Try one feature wall in an area that has the most impact….entry hall possibly? That being said, would doing all three areas be too much white and turn out bland??? Would having the WC and laundry in the same but contrasting with the kitchen work? Or best play it safe and go for similar colour, also considering the small size of the laundry/WC so light colours might work better............. I didn't mind your initial suggestion of Expresso for the laundry cupboards but worried that it might be too dark for the area. The laundry cupboards also include a broom closet and linen cupboard so it'll be a fairly big area. Other than online and in a brochure, I have yet to take a look at Pebble Brook but will do so, was hoping to visit the laminex showroom to see some larger samples, but they are only open on weekdays so that'll have to wait a few weeks til we take some time off. Your whites are fine!!! ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 54Jan 13, 2008 11:09 pm We managed to grab a sample of of Brook Pebble today, unfortunately don't quite like it as there's too much brown in it. Good news is that we saw a kitchen in the showroom in Laminex natural quartz which looked great so we'll investigate that option. Typical that colour is only available in the squareform range so might need to upgrade. Or alternately might just fully upgrade to Caesarstone for the laundry ![]() ![]() Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 55Jan 13, 2008 11:35 pm ![]() oh no I think I may have messed up! my kitchen is c/stone nova aurora with polar white cabinets (happy ) there is a door between the kitchen and laundry (laundry sits behind) laundry I already have greyey-white tiles (rushed into this a bit hmm) and what goes with them best is ash white laminex is it ok to have polar white in kitchen and ash white in laundry or should I put polar white in the laundry which works ok-ish ![]() but not as well as ash white in order to match laundry exactly to kitchen should I permanently close the door?! eep.....what to do what to do Leave me out of it! ![]() Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 57Jan 14, 2008 6:54 pm Hi dna,
We are having natural quartz benchtops in bathrooms & laundry & although it does come in squareform I'm pretty sure it does come in the standard rounded edge as well. We are teaming it with stipple seal cupboards, but have seen it with "off white" cupboards in a kitchen & looks great. Jo Well according to the Laminex Squareform brochure, the Natural Quartz is exclusive to the squareform benchtops, doesn't bother us too much as we prefer the square look anyway just wondering if there will be any cost difference and if so how much. Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 59Jan 14, 2008 10:41 pm dna,
Have just found my brochure & yes, it seems it is exclusive to the squareform range - which I think will be fine for you as there isn't too big a price difference (well that is what our cabinetmaker told us anyway)! Although he obviously hasn't put our order in as we are having reccessed basins in our vanities & can't have squareform!! So it look like I now have another question for Michelle - is there a laminate similar to natural quartz that will go well with stipple seal cupboards??
