We're are going for a natural theme so we're sticking mainly with neutrals with splashes of green (been told it's an analogous colour theme ![]() ![]() 1. Carpet 2. Stone benchtop for kitchen, bathroom, ensuite and WC 3. Laminate for the bathroom, ensuite and WC vanity 4. Kitchen cupboards colour (polyurethane) 5. Laminates for the laundry cabinet and benchtop For the walls, we've chosen Dulux Whisper White. Firstly for the carpets we're tossing up between two colours, a "Burlap" and a "Flannel Flower". I've attached 3 photos of each colour, the first one of each series is a close up of the carpet, the second is with our existing lounge which would be placed on the carpeted area and the last is against our selected floor tile. The carpet would be meeting the floor tiles at the staircase and also in the lounge room as this would be carpeted. The carpet would also be meeting the bathroom tiles but I don't have any photos with them together. Burlap Flannel Flower Out of the two carpets, which one is more suited colourwise? The floor tile has a stone effect on it and it's colour is close to Dulux Hog Bristle in half strength. Next is the stone benchtops. We only have the choice of one colour for the kitchen and all the vanities and we are tossing up between Ice Snow and Glacier. The kitchen flooring would be the same floor tiles as in the pictures above and the cupboards colour still have to be selected. The splashback would white with a slight green tinge. Here is a picture of the Caesarstones laid with the bathroom tiles (ignore the laminate swatches). The brown tile is for the floors and the white tile is for the walls. The Caesarstone sample on the left is Ice Snow and the other is Glacier. There would also be glass mosiacs in the bathroom/ensuite but we don't currently have a sample of it. The next items would be the cupboards and vanities to match the Caesarstone. The kitchen and WC would be on the main floor tile where as the bathroom and ensuite would be in the darker brown tile. And finally the laundry...the floor tile in the room is the main floor tile with the splashback the bathroom wall tiles (white). Here is a picture with them together and a swatch of Stipple Seal Whilst we considered using Stipple Seal for the benchtop, we can't think of a suitable laminate for the doors. We would prefer the benchtop to be lighter coloured than the doors. I realise that this is quite a big request so I won't be expecting too much but anything would be greatly appreciated. Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 3Jan 08, 2008 7:35 am Happy to answer your questions but its going to take some time....so I'll do it tonight. ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 4Jan 08, 2008 6:14 pm First thing…… Analogous…..means colours next to each other on the colour wheel.

The most important thing is stay consistent throughout your home, no chopping and changing of selections from room to room. 1. Carpet – If you’re asking me which photo selection I like best???? Then it’s the Flannel Flower list…..however…I am very confused with ALL the selections on the lists! (Carpets I mean) 2. Stone benchtop for kitchen, bathroom, ensuite and WC I quite like the Ice Snow, it’s a favourite. 3. Laminate for the bathroom, ensuite and WC vanity Dulux “Peruvian Clay” complements the Ice Snow. OR “Polar White” 2 totally different looks, depends which way you want to go. 4. Kitchen cupboards colour (polyurethane) Dulux “Peruvian Clay” complements the Ice Snow. OR “Polar White” 2 totally different looks, depends which way you want to go. 5. Laminates for the laundry cabinet and benchtop Benchtop - Laminex Stipple Seal Cabinet – Laminex Espresso….giving you darker cabinets than the benchtop. Whoooooo….now where’s my medication ![]() Let me know if your are confused about anything. ![]() Trust me….this took an hour to work through ![]() ![]() ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 6Jan 08, 2008 6:56 pm That’s good bec, two for one!!!!!! ![]() Happy it helped you also. I think this is the most important point to remember. When I went to my designer she said exactly the same thing. Dna, some of your colours are similiar to mine as well. My kitchens cupboards are the exact colour as my walls...whisper white. Carpet selections I have found very difficult. Good luck with your house, your colours sound yummy ![]() Mrs B Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 8Jan 08, 2008 8:43 pm I must ad here; it seems this must be a popular colour scheme.
It’s very hard for me to help a person I can’t talk to. It’s very easy for me to do colour selections for someone I am dealing with face to face! Believe it or not, by talking to a client and being with a client, I find it easy to guess their tastes. But over the forum…..this is not so easy! ![]() Mrs B….nice to know decorators and designers think alike! ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 9Jan 08, 2008 11:38 pm Hi Michelle,
Here is the colour pattern for our kitchen & Pantry as it was done in MS paint the colours are an indication only. The cabinets will be finished in Thermolaminated Vinyl the dark colour being Kiewa cherry and the light colour Namoi cherry (Gloss finish). The benchtops will be Latte Ceasarstone. All the appliances are Meile in Stainless Steel finish (except the hotplate which will be an induction unit in black glass) Splashbacks are glass tiles in an antique bronze finish. All windows are stained timber The look we are aiming for is warm contemporary. Do you think we will acheive this and what suggestions or alterations would you make? So we've now settled on the colour of the carpets to be the "Flannel Flower". When placing it next to the bathroom floor tile, it looked so much better than "Burlap" which just looked too caramel "Flannel Flower" Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ "Burlap" Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We've also decided to go with the Ice Snow for the benchtops, whilst I like the quartz pattern in the Glacier, the colour of Ice Snow works better with our tiles. As expected, your choice of Peruvian Clay works extremely well for the bathroom and ensuite ![]() ![]() Bathroom Selections Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ However I don't think it works so well for the WC which would have a different floor tile. Too me, it seems too faded. WC Selections with Peruvian Clay Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We think that Stipple Cocoa stands out a bit more, would this work? WC Selections with Stipple Cocoa Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'll have to pick up samples of Polar White and Expresso tomorrow to see, but if we use say Stipple Cocoa in the WC, would it be best to carry this same colour out to the laundry as access to the WC is via the laundry. If so, what laminate should we use for the laundry benchtop? For the kitchen we were thinking of a white kitchen so we'll most likely go with that. What Dulux colour is similar to your suggested Polar White? Again thanks very much Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 12Jan 09, 2008 12:16 am ![]() Sorry, but I don't think much of the carpets you are considering! ![]() Some what I'm not surprised ![]() ![]() Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 13Jan 09, 2008 12:49 am All of the above. ![]() Looks like polypropylene. It has poor resilience, so crushes, leaving imprints wherever there's furniture with any weight in it. Also flattens in traffic ways. Likely you'll be wanting to replace it within 5 years. It also very heat sensitive, so don't iron in the rooms or smoke or any other risky stuff. The fibre has good stain resistance because it's plastic & non-absorbent, BUT that doesn't mean you'll have spotless carpet. It will show everything unless you know how to care for it properly. If you like that style of carpet, something from a solution dyed nylon range will give better service (especially commercial types). Ash. Thanks for that, when it comes closer to the time when we need to finalise the carpet choice, I'll look and consider at other options. According to the label, the carpet fibre is Fibrelon. Is that just another type of polypropylene? Re: COLOUR QUESTIONS? 15Jan 09, 2008 1:42 am ![]() According to the label, the carpet fibre is Fibrelon. Is that just another type of polypropylene? Right ![]() They call it all sorts of names to try and make it sound new (or something) ![]() Polypropylene, olefin, polyolefin, fibrelon, etc.... all the same stuff. But NOT to be confused with polyester (which is a different polymer). Its a very cheap product to produce. dna…just quickly…….be very careful about putting a pattern with a pattern…. Your Ice Snow and the Stipple, 2 patterns together, will take the look away from your expensive Ceasarstone! Your Ice Snow and the Stipple, 2 patterns together, will take the look away from your expensive Ceasarstone! As you would know the Stipple Cocoa comes in two different finishes. We would use the natural finish which (to me) is a flush finish. The dimensions finish has the textured effect. In saying that, are the Stipples (in the natural finish) considered a pattern??
