Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 27, 2011 10:57 am Could I ask for some help on colours.... I am hopeless with choosing colours, I want it all to match and go together really well but don't know how!! Our main living areas are my big concern. The kitchen, dining and living room are basically all in one big room. The kitchen is going to be white cupboards, some sort of white (possibly with flecks through it) stone with a darker grey (thinking Linseed) glass splashback and grey wood look laminate on the back of the island bench. The floor looks like it will be blackbutt through out. The windows and doors will be Anotec Natural (which is a silver). The whole area leads straight out onto the back deck which will be tiled (undecided on the colour currently, suggestions???) and the outside walls are going to be rendered Dulux Merino with Dulux Monument for the piers. So what colour do I do the walls inside??? We really want a light, warm colour, maybe in the browns??? But I really have no idea where to start and frighteningly enough it kept me awake half the night despite the fact that we haven't actually started the building work yet !!!!! Re: can someone give me some ideas for wall colours 3Apr 27, 2011 5:45 pm Is it possible to get a warm white??? We really want to avoid the cold clinical type feel and if possible would like to have some sort of *colour* on the walls. Will have a look at my Taubmans colour chart when I get home, I am sure I have one amoungst my huge pile of colour charts Re: can someone give me some ideas for wall colours 4Apr 27, 2011 5:51 pm I am in the same boat steph, I am freaking out, we are building a 2 storey home with lots of open spaces and we have choosen to go with Antique White USA but now I am soooo worried that it is just going to be to bright and cold as we will be having white tiling downstairs but upstairs we will be having dark timber floors, I even went to Bunnings today and grabbed as many colour charts as I could - BIG MISTAKE now there are way too many to pick from and I have no idea what to do. At least with painting you can always paint feature walls afterwards and rugs too. Antique White USA is considered a warm white, but it still looks just "white" on the walls! but not cold and clinical, IMO. If you want some colour then maybe try something like Hog Bristle in half or quarter strength? it's a very neutral colour which goes with most decors "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Also equally important is your lightings. Are you using downlights or batten lights? Brighter colors always tend to show the room to be big. Re: can someone give me some ideas for wall colours 8Apr 28, 2011 12:42 pm Thank you everyone for the suggestions. Really don't want to go near creamy creams, hubby particularly has an adversioin to them so that rules out a lot of colours. The plan at the moment is to have downlights everywhere but over the island bench where I want to have three slim sliver pendents. Oh and grabbing the colour charts - my mistake as well!!! I don't have time to stop and look at them in the shop with the kids so I grab and think I will look at them at home, I pull them all out of my bag flick through them, get overwhelmed and put them away again Re: can someone give me some ideas for wall colours 10Apr 28, 2011 12:53 pm How about a taupe rather then a white? We have a massive living / kitchen / dining area like yours opening out onto a deck. White kitchen with blue benchtops and picture splash of Hawaii. Northern Box timber floor opening onto Tallowwood decking. I hate white (three kids under 5 = mess) and can't stand cream. So I went for a light taupe colour which I love. It tones in with everything IMO. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: can someone give me some ideas for wall colours 11Apr 28, 2011 1:04 pm Actually that is another good point, kids and white aren't a good mix, our currently yellow walls are bad enough!!! kyton do you happen to remember the name of the colour you used?? I have just discovered our bedrooms are in 80% Wattyl Bracken Brown. Maybe I might try that at 1/4 strength and see how that looks??? Although our bedrooms will need to be repainted as well after walls have moved etc, but we do really like the colour, so that might work, I think Would mean the rooms would flow quite well. Hi guys We have just removed a very large grape vine which was mounted to a structure along this wall. This is a shared wall with our neighbour, and after removal, we… 0 3949 6 11528 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 13817 |
