Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 24, 2011 3:52 pm Hi - I know this is the interior decorating board - but I am after some help with exterior colours, so I hope it is okay to post here. We are about to replace our ugly tile roof with a Colorbond roof - only thing holding us up is me choosing a colour. We have a cathedral roof - and it can only be seen from the front of the house (image provided below) and back of the house (which we cannot see unless we drive to the other side of the valley behind our house, so no photo). http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c64/venessa_leigh/009.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c64/venessa_leigh/010.jpg The front of the house has bricks on the bottom and wooden weatherboard cladding on top. The bricks carry several different colours, so will work with many of the Colorbond colours. The rear of the house is just weatherboards. The weatherboards were painted by the previous owner, so I am not sure of the colour - but it is quite similar to the Colorbond Dune sample card (so pale brown/grey). There is highlighting in a deep blue colour (which I do not like). I originally wanted Colorbond Dune for the roof - as I thought it would match in with the walls and lift the house (note the house is quite low set) - plus I thought it was a nice modern colour and I wanted a lighter colour roof for thermal reasons (our house gets super hot in summer). But after seeing Dune in the flesh it looks alot lighter in sunlight than it does on the colour card. So now I am worried it will be too light - also we are getting our detached garage's roof done the same colour as the house - and it has heaps of overhanging trees, so I am worried all the leaves etc that fall on it will stand out too much on a light colour like Dune. Now I am thinking about Windspray - but I am not sure how well it will blend in with the current scheme. I think it works okay with the brick (since the bricks have some blue and grey in them) - but will it look weird with a darker brick at the base of the house, light coloured cladding and then an darker roof? There is the option of repainting the weatherboards, but that will have to wait awhile (and then what colour to paint them??). So after that ramble - I am looking for some advice: will Dune work? will Windspray work? should I use another colour entirely? should I repaint the weatherboards and if so what colour? Thanks for any advice people can offer!! Help - what colour Colorbond roof 2Apr 24, 2011 5:26 pm Jasper... But I am just loving Jasper at the moment. Re: Help - what colour Colorbond roof 5Apr 25, 2011 11:00 am Thanks for the suggestions - I did think about Jasper - but I am worried it is too dark from a thermal perspective (I am trying to do everything I can to keep the house cooler in summer) - also I don't know how I feel about a fully brown colour scheme...... it seems a bit boring?! But maybe that suits the style of my early 80s house? I think Ironstone is a great colour, but way too dark in terms of drawing in heat. Re: Help - what colour Colorbond roof 6Apr 25, 2011 5:38 pm If you are getting a new roof make sure you specify sarking preferably the reflective one. This will help especially if you choose a darker colour. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! If you’re looking for a light roof I’d go with Shale Grey it will work in with the grey in your bricks.
