My dh and I both really like the American Hamptons' style of interior design. I like the fresh colours, the use of symmetry in wallpaper and the use of pine lining for the walls. Call me a sucker, but this is a style that appeals to both of us and when it comes to building, couples need all the "yes, I agree" moments they can grab! Any ideas as to whether it's a good idea to go with a decor inside a home simply because one likes it, never mind current trends? Thanks Fiona Re: Interior Colour and Design of Planned Home 2Jan 03, 2008 9:55 pm nzfiona Michelle, Any ideas as to whether it's a good idea to go with a decor inside a home simply because one likes it, never mind current trends? Thanks Fiona Fiona……If you like it….use it. I am not one for following the current trends. Not everyone is of that mind set, and not everyone has the some taste. Interior Design/Decoration has been running a muck of late…..anything goes. If you and your husband agree on something while building….that’s a huge PLUS! Nothing makes me happier to walk into a home that has been decorated to the clients taste. Go for it, it sounds interesting. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Interior Colour and Design of Planned Home 3Jan 04, 2008 9:18 am I know nothing of American Hampton style of interior design, indeed not a lot on interior designs at all.
BUT the bottom line with any of these questions is: Who are you buiding the house for?? Yourselves?? Or the trend police?? If you and DH both want it DO IT!! Because anyway you want the house to last a long time and today's latest trend will be tomorrow's has-been. You have to like the style long after the trend has past. Even if you do sell, who knows what the buyers tastes will be so they might want to change everything whatever you did. I guess the only exceptions to above might be if you were building a house purely as an investment and had no intention of ever living in it. I gather that is not the case here. Re: Interior Colour and Design of Planned Home 5Jan 04, 2008 12:43 pm Thanks, everyone.
Yes, it's for us, and not for whomever will buy it whenever we sell. Now all I have to do is bombard you poor forum members with queries about where to purchase things we require for this style! Fiona Re: Interior Colour and Design of Planned Home 6Jan 04, 2008 12:47 pm Porter Davis have a lot of displays in this style. Have you checked out their website ?
They get most of their furnishings from Guests furniture hire, who have an outlet in richmond called "Suite Deals" I think it's a lovely style when done properly Re: Interior Colour and Design of Planned Home 7Jan 04, 2008 1:07 pm Rellie,
Actually it was PD display home that caught our eye - a Bardot in Tarneit. It was done entirely in the American Hamptons style. Funnily enough, when we looked at the info on the display home to see what extras had been put in, the decor wasn't mentioned. We looked at the website that evening and found the decor, and we still liked it, but when we spoke with the sales people at this home another time, they said that the decor is not standard and even though the website nor the info sheet do not state that, they assume everyone would realise that fact! (One thing that, unfortunately, put us off PD. The attitude. Sometimes it's the little things that turn you off a builder, huh....) So long as choosing such an interior design style isn't going to cost us the Earth, we're very keen on it.
