Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Mar 30, 2011 12:10 pm Hi... we currently have the country look in our home.. we don't like it anymore and when we eventually build and move into our new home we want to change our look.. but i am not sure what is the "look" we are after.. main things I want.. simple designs that won't date quickly... more use of colour in our home, add some funk to our home... not be too out there but have some sort of wow factor in small doses... We recently had to buy a new setting for our son for his bedroom whilst our house has been up for sale.. we did it on the cheap but bought some furniture from Ikea.. his room looks funky for a year old boy... black bed, white expedit lime green chair and a white coffee sized play table..he loves it... I don't want my whole house black and white and have no idea about "styles" as such but need some inspiration... The gardening is the easy one for me.. all planned out in my head right down to plantings and art features in the garden... thanks for your help Re: what is your decorating style... 2Mar 30, 2011 6:50 pm Check out the Porter Davis Style finder site, I love it, and I think it will help you discover what you like. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5994&start=0 Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: what is your decorating style... 3Mar 30, 2011 10:59 pm wow.. thanks thats a great site.. liking minimalist contemporary... perfect! Re: what is your decorating style... 4May 12, 2011 7:59 am We love an industrial look! We will be attempting to achieve this look by using things like some replica dentist cabinets we found as our kitchen overhead cupboards. We love those old factory light fittings (you know those big green enamel ones - with rust spots! love it! ). Our coffee table has recycled timber top with chunky metal legs on castors as well as other bits and pieces we've found from junk shops and recycle yards. Some great stockists of the things we like are: http://www.thejunkcompany.com.au/indust ... esign.html and http://www.industriax.com.au/ Industria have some amazing things. We found some cool plates that could be used for bickies n' dips and they're from an old (now closed down) psych hospital - they're not overly pretty plates but we LOVE that history. I also love the 'dog bowls' made from old lpg bottles My advice would be to just keep a look-out for things that catch your eye. Cutting out some pics from mags, etc and keeping them in a folder might be a good way to do this. Once you have a decent pile of cut-outs, you can go through them and see if there seems to be a pattern. Good luck - searching and shopping is SO much fun! You might see patterns emerging or particular colours that you keep being drawn to. Not only will you be able to distinguish your style, but probably your colour palette as well. And don't be too worried about everything fitting into a style. Some of the most amazing homes that are in mags etc are quite eclectic and the individual pieces don't always "go", but the overall statement about the occupants is wonderful. Scout... love the username and avatar. Best book and movie. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
