Love the owl! Love the shiny fabric for the stool, think maybe the aqua one you have is a bit pale... the stool needs attitude. I think aqua or silver would look great for the legs too.... don't envy the decision you have to make I would be umming and ahhing over that. Maybe the fabric for the stool needs a bit of stretch in it, to get the finish right? Go bold... do it! Oh and good luck Re: My DD Aqua and Pink room is almost done -PICS are in! 66Jun 21, 2011 10:28 pm haha yeah I'm definitely going to go the velvet. I'm going to paint one leg the same colour as the feature wall (only thing is its a matt paint?) Not sure how that will look but easy to sand back if i need to just annoying and time consuming.. so i will staple fabric on and paint one leg white and tomorrow i will paint the gold feet silver so it will look more finished... Did you use paper or fabric? I think the stool would look fabulous with aqua legs and a pink top. You can easily use a clear waterbased varnish over the matt paint on the legs to give it a bit of shine. Being water based it wont go yellow. Did you use a sealer primer? If the legs have been varnished or stained previously, the colour may leach through to your topcoat. Are you going to remove the old cover (vinyl?) from the stool before you cover it? If not, then perhaps you should put some calico on it first to hide the dark underneath before you put the top material on. Looking great, though, and can't wait to see the finished product! I used scrapbooking paper for the owl, but the wings are an old wrapping paper i got given its kind of halfway between paper and fabric? The stool is coming along nicely, the legs I sanded back to the wood til they were really smooth (my 16 yr old sister instructed me that you have to do it right if you want a nice finish lol) I didn't use a primer I just did the gloss white as an undercoat and I have actually mixed a little bit of the white gloss with the feature wall paint and have made a not-quite-matt-not-quite-gloss lighter aqua colour.. but it actually looks really pretty. As you can probably tell this is my first try at ever doing anything like this.. oh and I'm just going to go over the old vinyl? You cant see the dark colour come through, but I have enough velvet to cover it twice.. would that be a dumb thing to do? Moved In!!! Next up Landscaping! Our Build thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=29127 Re: My DD Aqua and Pink room is almost done -PICS are in! 69Jun 22, 2011 10:49 am I would be inclined to remove the old vinyl...but that's me. The sharp edges where it looks as though the vinyl has split (the piping) may damage the new cover over time, where as if it wasn't there it wouldn't! Vinyl is also a slippery surface and you may get movement between the vinyl and the new fabric when it's sat on. I really would consider taking off the old vinyl carefully, then putting on calico over the top of the foam....or replacing the foam if it's really worn, then adding your chosen colour fabric. It will look much neater, and then you won't see the half ripped piping of the old vinyl through it. Having not seen the stool in the real, I really can't tell what condition it is in, but as your Sister says, if you're going to do it, do it properly!! BUT...in saying that, I don't know the construction of the stool, and it may be too difficult to remove the vinyl!! What does the underside look like? Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! But I'm scared LOL! The underside is hideous, but the vinyl is just stapled on so I'l be able to remove it.. I dont even want to know what the foam looks like.. in saying that vinyl is not really that absorbent to it might be ok.. ? IMO, if you can remove the vinyl, do it! Then I'd put a layer of calico on first. It's not hard to do, but you do need patience and perhaps another pair of hands to help! Re: My DD Aqua and Pink room is almost done -PICS are in! 73Jun 22, 2011 5:18 pm Thanks! I actually looked at spotlight at all the fake furs and fluffy fabrics but I didn't find a colour I liked. It was all HOT pink but not raspberry pink? I actually didn't find the colour I wanted in velvet either but my DD loved the one I ended up getting so much I couldn't say no. So I've done the rest of the legs in there first coat of the aqua and I've painted the feet silver. Hopefully they dry quick so I can do final coats! Moved In!!! Next up Landscaping! I chose 2 more fabrics to trial and I would really appreciate your opinions, I took the time to pin each fabric to stool so it gives a better idea of what it will actually look like. So here they are. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Moved In!!! Next up Landscaping! Re: My DD Aqua and Pink room *Need Help Choosing Fabric!!!* 79Jun 24, 2011 2:22 pm I agree with Mclaren. Although I love the third one with the dots and green background, it doesn't match the floaty feel of the quilt and pom poms. What about a purple velvet that matches the large pom pom? Re: My DD Aqua and Pink room *Need Help Choosing Fabric!!!* 80Jun 24, 2011 2:31 pm LOL I'm not buying another thing for this stool! I reeeeeaaallly like the end one with the spots it makes the room look bright and fun but I know what you mean about the floaty feel too. Still confused Moved In!!! Next up Landscaping!
