We waited a few months to see what the house was like first... then focused on the rooms and spaces we wanted to add some character to. I've done ours myself and was amazed how great they turn out by using the tape to make cutting in easier. I think it was the Selleys brand, the blue one. If you could talk someone into some quality time with the kids to let you get it done in peace, just think of the great homewares you can buy with $600! Re: Cost of feature walls? If your game I would suggest giving it a go as well, it really is beneficial to wait until you see if all finished and have an idea of what furnishings/window coverings as you might change your mind with colours. As others have said $50 for a pot of paint and it really takes no time at all and it's fantastic to sit back at the end and admire your handiwork. Did think of doing ourselves after hand over but I know it will be something that will not then actually get done so better to pay a bit more for the convenience of getting it done prior. They have got us thinking we will leave the feature walls for now and live in the house before we go making any mistakes with colour etc. And look to do it down the track.
