Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Mar 01, 2011 6:54 am Hi Michelle, I was wondering if you could tell me whether I am heading towards an epic fail with my colour choices for the internals of our newly renovated and extended house. In the renovated part of the house we are sticking with the original floorboards which are hardwood and have a pinkish tinge when freshly sanded and polished. In the extension the flooring is going to be a White Travertine tile. Ceiling heights in the renovation are 2550 but in the extension we have cathedral style ceilings (no timber showing though). I am not brave when it comes to colour, as you will see below. I know from reading these boards that we probably need some contrast - but can't we have that with furnishings? I really want to walls to be a bit of a blank canvas but have a light easy feel. Main colours throughout Internals Ceiling /Cornice - ceiling white Walls - Renovation (Antique White) Extension (was suggested that we use China White but it seems to dark?) was thinking about Nearly White by Haymes? Skirting / Architrave - Semi Gloss of the paints on the walls? Windows / Reveals / Frames - semi gloss of the wall paints Exposed Beams - NA Doors - no idea Window Treatments - roller blinds in a light colour Flooring - Renovation (floorboards) and extension white travertine tile Carpet NA Tiles or Vinyl Lighting downlights in extension, but we will have fan/lights in the bedrooms in the renovation ********************************* Thank you! Re: Colours help please 2Mar 01, 2011 5:21 pm Micklou, Can I just ask a question? Why are you not doing the same wall colour from your renovation to your extension….Antique White? I would do the doors the same colour as your walls, this will give you the blank canvas you are looking for. And yes….you don’t need a feature colour, you can add colour with your furnishings. I don’t see an epic failure here; you just know what you want. In answer to your question - we were advised by a well-meaning friend that Antique White would look good with the floorboards because it throws pink? and it was suggested that perhaps a cooler white would go better with the travertine floor in the extension? I definitely don't want a blue white as that would be too stark I think, and I have a thing against cream..... to me it always looks a bit grubby, so did not want anything that throws a yellow hue either. I am glad we are not in for an epic fail....... if you think that the antique white might be cool enough for the extension (which will have an pretty light feel because the kitchen is quite light), then I can always test pot it I guess. The splashback in the kitchen will be tiled in a tile that features brown - so I guess the antique white might go with that as well? Cheers! ML Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7158 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits.
