Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 01, 2011 1:34 pm Hi all, I currently own a 30 year old brick home which is in desparate need of a full interior paint job. The majority of my furnishings are a modern chocolate colour, hence a colour that complements that is a necessity. I will be replacing the flooring after I have painted with a Armstrong Rhino Element Viynl planks to be layed in the kitchen, lounge and hall and carpet in the three bedrooms. Basically I am after some suggestions for modern whites that would suit my furnishings, my house is relatively small so I would prefer colours that give the illusion of bigger rooms. I am not attracted to cream/yellow whites as I believe they won't suit my modern chocolate furnishings. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Re: Interior White Colours 2Feb 01, 2011 2:20 pm I dont think you could go wrong with Dulux colours such as Beige Royal, Whisper White, China White, Antique USA...those are just a few popular ones currently. Antique will look creamy to the south from my experience with colour cards recently. It will look pink held up against other whiter or yellow whites but on its own will look white - for this reason I would do the ceiling in the same shade of white that you choose unles syou want to highlight the colour difference and slight undertones. Re: Interior White Colours 5Feb 01, 2011 2:40 pm Rooms face north/east. Was thinking it would be best to stick with same colour for ceiling as walls maybe in a different strength. Will also be painting kitchen cupboard doors and want them all the same and modern/crisp look! Re: Interior White Colours 6Feb 01, 2011 3:44 pm yes Antique white can look creamy...but it really depends on what other colours you put with it. We're using Beige Royal for our wall colours, 1/4 strength and full strength...check out my thread (link is in my sig) and using antique USA for trims and ceiling... We ended up doing 1/2 strength Off White with one wall of full strength Hog Bristle and white ceilings. I absolutely love it. It suits Chocolate furniture and timber. It is a warm white without really throwing much color. And definately makes rooms look bigger. We actually filled a wall in before painting (ie made an open area into 2 separate rooms) and yet people think the space is bigger than before, even though it is now half the size Re: Interior White Colours 8Feb 02, 2011 11:23 am Tjilpi, Do you have a pic of your paint work? Was the hogbristle used as a feature wall? I have been doing a lot of research on the net and found a house painted whisper white with a Beige Royal feature wall, looked fantastic. Also have been sent a pic of a house painted white on white (owner has chocolate furniture like myself) and it looked fantastic!!!!! So confusing!!!!! I agree that the Antique USA has a tinge to it which I dont like either, although it is a popular colour choice. Thanks for your help Re: Interior White Colours 9May 03, 2011 5:42 pm Still deciding on a white - painter arriving soon!!!!!!!! The more I examine different white the more I like!!!!! How can white be so confusing. Tossing up between natural white, whisper white......not sure though!!!! Has anyone used china white with some pictures they could share? Cheers Re: Interior White Colours 10May 03, 2011 7:19 pm The Beige Royal and Antique White USA look great in Liz,s house. I used simular colours, and what I did with the doors and skirtings etc was to use 1/2 strength of the same colour, sisal which is a resene paint, also did the kitchen cabinetry that colour. It gives a modern vibe to my 80s house Re: Interior White Colours 12May 03, 2011 7:39 pm Thanks Kiwichick......the beige royal and antique white does look modern. I have all chocolate furniture so do you think using these colours would be an overload?????? Might end up looking like a mixed block of cadbury chocolate Thanks Vanders - my current walls I believe are Lexicon and they are too blue for my liking but would love to see your pics Re: Interior White Colours 14May 04, 2011 1:29 pm mook44 Thanks Kiwichick......the beige royal and antique white does look modern. Might end up looking like a mixed block of cadbury chocolate Thanks Vanders - my current walls I believe are Lexicon and they are too blue for my liking but would love to see your pics Hi Mook, I used Beige Royal Quarter on all walls, and Peplum Quarter on our ceiling. We have chocolate furniture too. There are photo's on my blog, but I still can't believe the difference in the paint colours from room to room, and the difference light makes... Sometimes the walls look grey and sometimes they look more creamy beige. Cheers, Re: Interior White Colours 15May 04, 2011 2:32 pm hello Mook, I do love chocolate Yum Yum. I have a large kitchen, dining, living area. The dining table and chairs are dark oak and I have dark brown leather armchairs and side tables. I have broken it up with the cushions and couch in lighter colours. Accessories, curtains, pictures add some vibrant colour. Re: Interior White Colours 16May 06, 2011 11:54 am Hi all, Thank you for your help and suggestions regarding colour. I have spent much of my nights studying and researching colours via the net, brochures and consulting friends! Im thinking 1/2 hogs bristle with white trims?????? What do all think? I am conscious I have a small home and this will open it up and brighten and also suit my chocolate furnishings. Im still a bit baffled as to what colour to paint kitchen cupboards? Any ideas? Maybe just white gloss? Any suggestions warmly appreciated Re: Interior White Colours 17May 06, 2011 8:08 pm Paint your cupboards full Hog Bristle Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Interior White Colours 18May 06, 2011 8:26 pm Thanks Michelle - just sitting on couch stressing. Bought a sample pot of 1/2 hogs bristle and it has a yellow look to it - which I dont like! Also painted on 1/4 beige royal doesnt look to bad - definitely not yellow but might be too much with my chocolate furnishings!!!!! Oh why can't colour selection be simple!!!!! Maybe i need to wait till morning an give it a second coat!!!! Re: Interior White Colours 19May 06, 2011 8:51 pm Mook…I personally am not a fan of taking Hog Bristle up a shade or two.
