Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 24, 2008 3:45 pm Hi Michelle! I have been lurking around the forum for months now and really enjoy reading all your posts - you are such a wealth of knowledge! I can't believe that now it's finally my turn to say - 'Help Michelle! I need your expertise with my colours!!!!"
We are still undecided on our bricks but have narrowed them down to two choices - Boral Sydneytown and Boral Sandalwood. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj16 ... ytown2.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj16 ... alwood.jpg I have been concentrating on the Sydneytown today, trying to work out all my colours to go with it and would love your opinions! I'm sort of flying blind, with a husband who couldn't really give a continental about 'these sorts of things'!!! Brick: Boral Sydneytown Mortar: Have a choice of white or yellow?? Roof Tiles: Bristile Sanctuary Guttering: Colourbond Woodland Grey Fascia: Colourbond Classic Cream Windows: Colourbond Woodland Grey Front Door: Woodland Grey Garage Door: Woodland Grey Render: Maybe Wattyl Tender Beige, Brushed Softly or Moroccan Stone I guess the look I'm trying for is something that isn't too 'blah'. The bricks are quite light I suppose, so that's why I've done a lot of contrasting in the grey. The above photo is of a house that Boral sent us to made of Sydneytown. I feel like it's too 'blah', hence above! I can't wait to hear what you think and what other great ideas you may have! No rush, whenever you get a chance! Now I might go and get stuck into the Sandalwood!!! Thanks heaps! xMadmel http://marshallmansion.blogspot.com/ Re: External colours - Help Michelle! 2Jan 25, 2008 8:00 am Roof Tiles: Bristile Sanctuary
What colour is this???? GREY?? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: External colours - Help Michelle! 3Jan 25, 2008 8:44 am Madmel…..I have made only a couple of changes.
I can see you want to lift the appearance of the façade, but I still think you have been a little safe in your colour selections. Below are the changes, other than those all looks good! Good luck! Brick: Boral Sydneytown Mortar: “White” Roof Tiles: Bristile Sanctuary Guttering: Colourbond Woodland Grey Fascia: Colourbond “Sandbank” (changed) Windows: Colourbond Woodland Grey Front Door: Woodland Grey Garage Door: Woodland Grey Render: Wattyl “Sandbank” or C/B “Woodland Grey” (changed) your choice Notes…..C/B Smooth Cream is too light and too great a colour variance with the Woodland Grey, they are not a happy combination together. Sandbank is closer in depth to the woodland, so a much better choice. Thank you so much!!!!! I know I'm playing it safe but I'm scared stiff that I'm going to make all the wrong choices and my house is going to end up being 'you know that ghastly house on the way to.....' that everyone jokes about!!!!! I would really love something funky, but as I said, I'm a bit scared! If there are other 'groovier' colours that you think would look fabulous, PLEASE let me know because I'm open to all ideas!
Thanks again! xMadmel BTW, which brick did you prefer?! Re: External colours - Help Michelle! 5Jan 25, 2008 4:51 pm Sorry……I did this colour scheme on the Boral Sydneytown brick, as that’s what you had.
I didn’t look at the other one till you did something with it., honestly…. I prefer the Sandalwood brick best. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: External colours - Help Michelle! 6Jan 25, 2008 5:32 pm Yeh, I liked the Sandalwood the best too, but am having a harder time with the contrast colours - all I know is that when I first laid eyes on the house, I thought it looked too 'hot'! Does that make sense?! I think with the red of the roof, gutters and doors, it was all a bit too much red.
Also, it was VERY different from the 'wall' photo that we had taken from Boral - there were a lot more dark bricks in it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you just never seem to know what you are going to get with bricks! I was thinking similar choices with the Sandalwood as what I had chosen for the Sydneytown - mostly greys. Am I being really boring?!!! I just don't know!!! BTW, this is the house we are building, to give you more of an idea! http://www.rawdonhill.com.au/NEW/malvern.html Thanks again! xMel Re: External colours - Help Michelle! 7Jan 25, 2008 6:34 pm The Sandalwood is similar to my sandstock brick I have.
There is no reason why the colours chosen with the Boral Sydneytown will not go with Sandalwood as well. The bricks have the grey in them which is better than the blond Sydneytown bricks. After looking at your actual house on the website I can see where you have come up with your original colours. Nice home! Brick: Sandalwood Mortar: “White” Roof Tiles: Bristile Sanctuary Guttering: Colourbond Woodland Grey Fascia: Colourbond “Sandbank” (changed) Windows: Colourbond Woodland Grey Front Door: Woodland Grey Garage Door: Woodland Grey Render: Wattyl “Sandbank” I have changed this now after viewing your home on the website…..Sanbank is better. You need it to stand out from the Woodland Greys. Get a sample of the Sandalwood bricks in their mix, and put the above colours with those bricks…..I think you will be surprised at how well they go. By the way, my changes is all you needed for your home to make a nice classy statement, I don’t believe in “Being out there” with your style of home. Also by introducing all the grey “woodland” you have now illuminated the hot of the terracotta.
