Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 21, 2011 4:57 pm after getting so many good ideas for internal colours from reading through topics, I thought I would post some pics to get suggestions for external colours. We were looking for a more modern look, but we do want to keep the bricks as opposed to rendering them. We are looking at painting the fascia board, the boarding above the window, the window frames and the eaves. [img=http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/1636/pict1639.th.jpg] [img=http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/3484/pict1643y.th.jpg] We would love any and all suggestions. Obviously we are also planning some landscaping - including a courtyard wall which may or may not be rendered - which will significantly help, but the painting needs doing first to protect the surfaces. Many thanks! Re: Exterior colours for an old house 2Jan 24, 2011 12:12 pm Love the house - great character! I'm glad you're not rendering the brick. If you want a slightly more modern look, I would paint out the green fascia etc with white and then paint the boards above the window charcoal. I also think respraying the roof charcoal will make a dramatic difference. I like the freshness of the windows being white but to modernise it a bit more you could paint the windows dark charcoal. Not sure what you'd do with the boards above the front window in that case, but using some combo of charcoal with white is my first thought. Re: Exterior colours for an old house 3Jan 25, 2011 9:44 am Thanks xquisite, great suggestions. Redoing the roof is definitely on the cards in the next few years. I totally agree that the fascia board would be best in a lighter colour. I'm not such a big fan of pure white but was thinking of a creamy off white similar to wattyl's hazlenut milk. There has been very heated debated between myself and my other half on these colours. He wants to go a blue on the fascia board but I am trying (rather unsuccessfully) to bring him round. Given how grey and depressing the roof tiles are I just think think a fresher fascia board would brighten the place up. I think I'll have to do a mock up of a few suggestions to help visulaise and convince him. I'll try out the charcoal too, it's not a colour I had even considered. Any more suggestions from anyone? Re: Exterior colours for an old house 5Jan 28, 2011 9:56 am Thanks Judie, that really does help. I had a play round with the dulux site last night, but our laptop didn't like the site and it took forever. The more I played though the more I realised how drab and depressing the roof is. Unfortunately updating that is a few years down the track.
Will try again on the desktop over the weekend. Re: Exterior colours for an old house 6Jan 28, 2011 11:04 am Good work Judie, maybe you could have a look at my exterior colours.
