Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 18, 2011 8:14 pm Yes, another one! I've spent the last two days searching this forum and many more but I am still confused. I need to select a white paint for the walls of my house and want to make sure it complements my existing choices. It's for a renovated/rebuilt terrace home which is modern on the inside. The house faces south, so with the lounge/dining/kitchen area at the back there is plenty of sunlight in these areas. There are some bits of the house that are a bit dark, though. I have spotted gum flooring throughout, with a taupey carpet in the bedrooms upstairs and cloudy white and neutral grey tiles in the bathrooms and ensuites. My kitchen has polar white cabinetry up top, and glossy black on the bottom cabinets with 'pure white' caesarstone bench tops. The bathrooms and ensuites are polar white and pure white tops. I've gone for a very monochromatic design template, mostly because it suits the furniture I chose (mostly black leather, black glass and some dark timber and chrome) and love but also because I have a fair bit of artwork and vases etc in bright colours. I am yet to chose a splash back or my window dressings. I am certain that I will use vivid white for my ceilings, skirting and doors throughout, as well as on the bathroom and toilet walls to match the tiles. As for the walls, I'm stuck between whisper white and lexicon half. I love the look of whisper white with black furniture and pure white ceilings, however I'm scared that it will look dirty next to my kitchen cabinets and brightly coloured accessories. However, lexicon half might look too cool and make a monochromatic colour scheme look scary! I'm also worried about the south facing bedrooms and what the colours might look like there with minimal light. What do you all reckon? Whisper white or lexicon half next to a polar white kitchen?? I have asked SO many people today at work and the opinions were definitely mixed. PS would love to go to the house and test it myself with some sample pots, but I just don't have the time as its so far away and the kitchens and floors aren't in yet. Keen to hear opinions. Sorry for yet ANOTHER white paint thread. Re: ANOTHER white paint question! 2Jan 19, 2011 12:36 pm Hi, I was having the same dilemna as you with whites! It really is an ardous task choosing the 'right' white. We have polar white cupboards in our kitchen also and I found whisper white to be quite dull next to them. It almost looked grey. We went with Natural White. It isn't striking and doesn't take the effect away from the white cupboards, in fact, because I have a lot of browns and chocolates (wattyl donkey 1/2 strength on a feature wall), the natural white behind the kitchen actually seems to a tinge of brown in it. I will put some pics up later. Re: ANOTHER white paint question! 3Jan 19, 2011 7:06 pm Hmm, very interesting. Thanks kara.. would be great to see pics Re: ANOTHER white paint question! 4Jan 20, 2011 4:23 pm danny girl Yes, another one! Sorry for yet ANOTHER white paint thread. Just a question, with your furniture and the look you want why not go for PURE WHITE, no tint no shades? I did toy with the idea of pure white without any tint, but my partner was pretty against it haha. He thinks it would have looked like a pharmacy and we needed some difference from the stark white kitchen. Having said that, I do think it would have looked good too. We ended up finding time and painted a couple of areas a few days ago, and it turns out that the whisper white looked quite neutral and clean, while lexicon half turned out very blue. We've decided on whisper white, and think it would allow us to introduce some other colour elements. I think the darkness of my house (it is a terrace) needed some warmth, but I was worried about it looking dirty or pink. I'm glad went and tested it out. Re: ANOTHER white paint question! 6Jan 27, 2011 8:29 am Hi, Sorry for the lateness in posting! That's great that you have decided, though I thought I would post my pics anyway:) Sorry for the blurriness, not sure what my camera was doing (yes I blame technology!) You can see above the kitchen cupboards that it looks a lot 'creamier' that the other wall. Good luck Re: ANOTHER white paint question! 7Feb 03, 2011 10:05 pm kara, your kitchen is divine! My kitchen got installed today (yipee) but it is missing appliances and benchtops for the moment. the patches of whisper white are looking fab next to it.
