Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 14, 2011 3:10 pm I enjoy answering questions for members of the forum; it gives me satisfaction of helping others. BUT…..there has to be a time limit on what I answer. I don’t think some of you are aware of the time it takes to answer some of the really long questions…..like, ALL of the selections in and on your home. I have to pull out laminate books, fan decks, connect to Dulux website for colours, load the colours into imageshake and upload them to the forum. So you can see it’s a lot of my time. Please, when asking question to me, can you keep it brief, ask a few questions over a few days. If the question is too long I may not have time to answer it for you. And please NO PM’s to me about colours, I really like for the rest of the forum to get the benefit of the question and the answer in case someone is thinking of the same colours. So post them here so everyone can see. Thank you so much members….keep them coming, but keep them brief. Re: I love to get your questions…..BUT 4Jan 14, 2011 10:34 pm Hi Michelle- You clearly do a great job on here but.......Do people honestly expect that you will be the only one to answer questions about paint colours etc? Personally whenever I have posted questions on a forum I am putting it out there to ANYONE to answer (or have I misunderstood/missed the point. Are things supposed to work differently on this forum?) I have learnt so much on this particular forum from occasions where people have asked questions and MANY people have offered their opinion. I even enjoy the fact that sometimes the same questions get asked repeatedly because responses can change, new products become available and new members join and bring with it a new perspective. It is great to be able to search a few key words and get a big range of responses. Personally I would think that it would be selfish for anyone to expect that ONE individual would answer (.....even if there is a person who oversees or moderates a certain section. Having moderated on other types of forums I know first hand how time consuming it can be especially as it is a voluntary/unpaid role) Now I am actually feeling quite self conscious as I just recently posted a really long-winded question about paint colours. (I have a tendency to 'think out loud' when I am on forums) I logged in recently to check to see if there were any responses and reflected on the fact, that it was far more long-winded than I had intended it to be so I re-phrased my question to simplify things. I can't help wondering whether this 'announcement' is something directed at me (or posts like mine) and to be completely honest I am now feeling so self conscious that it is directed at me that I think I will be less inclined to post here for fear that I might accidentally offend someone when my intention was only to 'contribute and participate' in this wonderful forum. Miss…….my thread or comment was NOT directed at anyone in particular. It is something I say every now and again to remind new members to keep their questions brief. I see you’re not so new here, so I’m sure you would have seen similar post in the past by me. You also did not direct your last thread……(which I did see yesterday) to me directly. Please do not be offended by my comment, I was in no way looking to offend anyone, just trying to make my time here a little less full on. I also get people emailing me from the forum and internet asking for free advice which is something I charge for. Don’t be offended Miss…..just keep posting. Does it need a re-write? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: I love to get your questions…..BUT 8Jan 15, 2011 7:07 am Definitely not me, Mish!! Now, hope you don't get stressed about this! Anyway, all the ladies who posted in this thread are so right in what they are saying or bringing up. And like Miss stated - forums are for everyone (at least I hope!), but sometimes I think that I may have crossed the boundaries (aka offended someone ) when I get entangled into commenting, even though there is someone already involved who is probably more equipped or experienced or has more knowledge of the subject matter than I do - but I do hope that everyone can see it for what it is - perhaps an attempt to look at things from different angles, bring up new, related issues (sometimes not exactly the original issue, but a branch-off, so to speak), offer personal opinion/experience, or just show interest in the topic even by posting not-so-relevant comments . I hope "barging in" like that into threads is not seen by the more qualified members as wanting to be the 'lid for every pot' (although some people sometimes do come across as that, even on trivial or just-for-fun stuff - having the "wisdom" to wave and point their sticks at others even though the only "certain facts" they have are their own assumptions which they turn into 'facts' and go from there as if that's how it is ) ... oops, digressed! I like the variety! Oh, and keeping it light, friendly and helpful - if possible My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: I love to get your questions…..BUT 9Jan 15, 2011 3:14 pm Michelle, I think I speak on behalf of many other forum members by saying a huge thank you for your time and interest in everyone's projects. It's a very kind thing of you to offer advice to people, particularly when it can become time consuming. Reminding everyone of your limits is a good thing because it hopefully saves questions getting a little out of hand, and encourages others to offer opinions too to take the burden off you. I agree with just Erin regarding all of us posting visuals of rooms, colours, tiles etc so we can all more easily offer opinions/advice to the poster with the question. Once again Michelle, you're an absolute gem!! Re: I love to get your questions…..BUT 11Jan 15, 2011 5:33 pm MIchelle... keeping it brief... does my butt look big in this? I DO NOT expect a pat on the back for what I do here, I do it because I like to. That’s just it. Lex…..not stressed at all about your comment, even though I think you might be talking about me somewhere in all that??? As I said Miss, just keep posting, all is good. Having moderated forums myself I completely understand how time consuming it can be and you are completely well within your rights to set your own limits. I'm sure you can also see things from my perspective though and can recognise how it would be easy for me to wonder if there is a connection especially when you look at the look at the fact that I posted a long-winded question and then shortly after comes you post reminding people to keep it brief. I am not offended in the least- I am just making note of an observation. Re: I love to get your questions…..BUT 18Jan 15, 2011 8:30 pm Michelle has politely made a more than reasonable request.
