Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 06, 2011 1:51 pm Hi, We are currently in the process of painting our lounge-dining room. The carpet is a pale green. We have a dark blue couch and teak furniture with dark reddish/orange material on dining suite. Sorry, can't think of the correct colour name. We are thinking of painting all walls in Chalk USA but any other suggestions would be welcome. The room has huge floor to ceiling windows which open to the garden and is very light. One wall has a photo collage which will eventually cover most of the wall. Each photo has a plain black frame. We would like to make this wall a feature wall and paint it a different colour from rest of the walls. I have no experience at all in interior design and so far my attempts (with sample pots) have not been great, as you will see in the attached photos. I have also attached a photo that shows the colour of the kitchen bench (green/grey) and cupboards (teak). Friends have hated my attempt for the feature wall with the red colour (Carmen Miranda) because it is so strong. My kids did not like the Sierra colour because they said it looked "sickly". Any suggestions for a suitable colour for this wall would be very welcome. Or should be paint the wall the same as the others? thank you in advance Ilana You can find the photos at Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Desperately need advice about feature wall colour 2Jan 06, 2011 3:40 pm ilana Hi, We are currently in the process of painting our lounge-dining room. I was terrified at first, but it's come up quite well... I like red for bedrooms, but I'm not sure I'd use it in a living area. The colour can tend to speed up the heart rate, so if you're after a relaxing feel, then perhaps go for a different colour altogether, like a darker teal or something that ties in with the existing furniture... http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/masterbedroomBIGDSC_1218.jpg We also have teak furniture in our family room, and a photo wall which I've painted Dulux "Charcoal Light". It works well with our other colours of greys, blacks, and ared leather lounge. see below http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/featurephotowallDSC_1192.jpg Re: Desperately need advice about feature wall colour 3Jan 06, 2011 3:59 pm just erin..where is aaron!??? Re: Desperately need advice about feature wall colour 5Jan 06, 2011 4:10 pm Using the MyColour Visualiser from the Dulux website certainly helps Even if you go with other paints other than theirs, it's a fabulous tool to help you get a feel for what colours work, and what colour dont. http://www.dulux.com.au/colour/mycolour Re: Desperately need advice about feature wall colour 6Jan 06, 2011 4:21 pm just Erin kiwi just erin..where is aaron!??? are you ok? not too lonely?! The photos and frames make the feature. Erin’s is different she has chosen a colour that is not bright, which looks stunning to me. I would leave that wall alone and pick another wall in the room and paint it. The photos and frames make the feature. +1. There's enough colour with the photos plus the green & the blue. It would be a bit much for me. Re: Desperately need advice about feature wall colour 14Jan 14, 2011 2:07 pm How about a feature on one of the other walls? Is there a long wall where you have your tv? That generally seems like a good starting point. Re: Desperately need advice about feature wall colour 15Jan 15, 2011 4:42 pm Hi Ilana, can I suggest something completely different without offending you? ... what about the idea of creating your photo collage wall in another area, or down your hallway maybe. Then you could paint a gorgeous feature wall behind the lounge and place either a very large stylish print or canvas there, or even a large mirror or set of 3 vertical mirrors, giving the feature wall colour the attention it deserves. I just wonder if the photo collage in your lounge room may make the room feel very 'busy'. Just another thought, hope you don't mind me verbalising it! Re: Desperately need advice about feature wall colour 16Jan 17, 2011 12:10 pm I like Pauline's idea! Is there another place you could have your photo wall? Re: Desperately need advice about feature wall colour 17Jan 17, 2011 12:39 pm Thank you all for your advice which is very much appreciated. I have decided to listen and not paint the wall with the photo collage with a different colour. All walls are now going to be painted in Clotted Cream. The first coat is done and I think it looks good. If I think we need more colour in the room, I might introduce this by buying some bright coloured cushions or the like. I still think I will use this wall for the photos. There is no other wall in a hallway or elsewhere that is really suitable for a photo collage. The photos have already been on this wall for a number of years and I don't think it looks too "busy". It has been nice having family photos (weddings, children, grandchildren) all together on display in one place in the loungeroom. We get a lot of visitors standing looking at the wall to check out new developments and "family growth" and it means we don't have multiple photos cluttering shelves. Thanks again. Ilana Re: Desperately need advice about feature wall colour 18Jan 17, 2011 12:53 pm I'm glad you have arrived at a solution that suits you best! It is hard trying to make a decision isn't it!? I love walking into a home with photos on display- and you're living in the home so you are the best one to decide if this is the best place to have it!
