Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Dec 05, 2007 9:37 am Hi Michelle - yep, that ol' chestnut 'the crappy portico colour' has reared it's ugly head in a big way.
Had the driveway laid yesterday (just waiting for him to clean and seal today) and just when I was getting used to the ugly portico colour ... the driveway now makes it look even worse!! My thought was to paint the portico Paperbark (same as gutters and garage door) but the more I think about it, the more I think it may look like there is too much of that colour .. if you get my drift. The facade of the house is very plain so it would be nice to give it a bit of a lift ... I just can't put my finger on what colour to go for with the portico. Any suggestions you can give are as always, very welcome. P.S. Although you can't see it, the front door is Wattyl Scorpion red. Was it personal choice or a case of had to be done that way? I wanted it to go right up there but the guy said that that is how he does it (you can just see the neighbours place - who used the same guy - and he did it the same with them). i didn't really mind anyway because it gives me a bit more area to make a garden bed down that side ![]() Re: Portico colour help 6Dec 05, 2007 10:05 am Amber wrote.. it lines up with the crossover Re: Portico colour help 8Dec 05, 2007 10:19 am Amber have you thought about stacked stone veneer instead of re-painting the render??? Hi Amber…..it’s not a very clear photo….when the driveway dries, what colour will it be? Phoenix - yep, stacked stone was up there as an alternative but $$$ got in the way unfortunately! Dam wedding ![]() Re: Portico colour help 11Dec 05, 2007 10:26 am oh .. sorry , didn't answer your question Michelle.
The colour is called 'Uluru Red' on the driveway. I imagine it will be pretty similar to what it is now but a bit shinier. Re: Portico colour help 13Dec 05, 2007 12:44 pm Matt you are evil!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Amber, I would go the paperbark colour to tie in with the gutters and the garage. I think it would simplify the front of your house, and make your nice door color more of a feature. Your garden plants will provide enough color. You could always add some nice lights each side of your portico to add interest. ![]() Re: Portico colour help 14Dec 05, 2007 12:59 pm Would be a nice surprise for hubby when he comes home!!! ![]() Matt - can you put your skills to good use and do the portico the same colour as the garage door? will give me an idea whether it's going to be too 'samey'. thanks a bunch (send the bill to John) ![]() Re: Portico colour help 15Dec 05, 2007 1:00 pm MATT!!!!!
