Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Dec 19, 2010 5:55 pm hi, i'm unsure which wall to place my hall table. It is about 1 metre long, 350mm deep. the hall is about 1.3-1.4M wide. Against the garage wall ( top ) or against the WIR wall ? The red dotted line is the bulkhead, there is an air return ( the small square in WIR). Thanks very much. this is the plan Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: where to place the hall table 2Dec 19, 2010 5:59 pm Most definitely centred against the garage wall. Make sure you post pics Re: where to place the hall table 3Dec 19, 2010 6:02 pm +1 for two reasons. It would look a bit busy on the other side because of the door in the middle of the wall. And secondly, if it was on the WIR side, when you open the front door you would sort of feel like you were walking into furniture rather than space. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: where to place the hall table 4Dec 19, 2010 6:07 pm agree with garage side for 3 reasons - the way the front door opens you enter slightly to the RHS (ie have table in 'dead space' on the other side), the WIR wall has something aready to break it up (ie the bedroom door), table on garge side gives a nice focal point as you walk out of the bedroom. If you dont like it, it is very easy it to move to the other side Re: where to place the hall table 5Dec 19, 2010 6:20 pm Definately next to the garage we have had our hall table in a similar location for the last four years The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: where to place the hall table 8Dec 19, 2010 9:16 pm It looks a nice contrast to me, not out of place at all. Also, I presume you are goings to put things on the table so that will soften the 'single block of colour' look it has at present. Re: where to place the hall table 9Dec 19, 2010 9:18 pm Hi Nott, I agree with Helyn... just needs some ornaments and some pictures above it Re: where to place the hall table 10Dec 19, 2010 9:48 pm thanks helyn and flag., yep i think i will put something on it, but now i am so tired to clear the "blocks of mess" so probably would do it later. I think i will put a mirror with the hall table and probably some frames against the wir wall. Re: where to place the hall table 11Dec 19, 2010 10:39 pm I think it looks great! Dont overload the hall table with too much, as it's quite a small petite piece, you dont want it to look too cluttered. Re: where to place the hall table 13Jan 14, 2011 11:44 am So for the mirror, Yeah a big mirror will brighten the hallway, but i'm again unsure of the size. Either too big or too small will look My halltable is around 1M long, hallway about 1.3-1.4M wide Thanks very much Re: where to place the hall table 14Apr 19, 2011 3:54 pm Rather than start another thread, I'll jump on the end of this one.
We have double entry doors in our new home. I want to put the hall table on the right hand side of our hall way (when facing the home from the street). Why, because I have a power point here for a lamp, there is a substantial amount of wall here and the table will then be across from the door to our master bedroom. Which door of the double entry doors should then be the main opening door?? The left hand door, or the right hand door...?? (I know which way I think it should go, but am after other opinions to see if I'm on the right track ) Re: where to place the hall table 15Apr 19, 2011 4:28 pm I dont think there is a right or wrong. My left door opens up but my friend's right door opens up?! I never put any thought in to it to be honest! (I know which way I think it should go, but am after other opinions to see if I'm on the right track ) I was advised when designing my house that its a 'directional' decision. So for example if you want people to enter and move to the right of you - you open the left. If the direction of flow through the house is to the left of the door - you open the right. It's natural for people to want to go in the unobstructed direction. From the hall photo - it looks like you'd open the left. ____________________________ SuzanneW https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=38219 Pre-Start 01/10/10 Slab 14/01/11 Brickwork 28/02/11 Roof Frame 24/03/11 Re: where to place the hall table 20Apr 22, 2011 12:43 am Thanks heaps SuzanneW !! Exactly what I think. I am peed off because my builder has put the doors around the wrong way and I'm trying to get them to change them at their cost. They got it wrong on the plans and I did not pick this up. I only picked up the 50+ other errors they made, but not this one. I am so annoyed at myself (but am only human) as I have geared everything around the front left hand door being the main opening one. Grrrrr. I specified the left hand opening one when we did our meetings pre-start but they have no record. Grrr. So annoyed! Thanks for your help. I will have them changed.
