Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Nov 29, 2010 9:27 am Hi all - Need some quick opinions/recommendations on paint colour for skirtings, internal doors and ceilings. Situation is that our internal walls are going to be Burnt Ash (Bristol P226-N2) colour and we are considering 2 options for the skirtings, internal doors and ceilings Option 1 - Go with whisper white (Taubmans) for ceilings, skirtings and all internal doors to break it up a little or... Option 2 - Go with 25% strength of the Burnt Ash (colour of the internal walls) for ceilings, skirtings and internal doors Would love to have your opinion on the above options and why. Appreciate it Re: Opinions needed for skirting/ceiling/internal door colou 2Nov 29, 2010 6:23 pm I vote for white. I just have a firm personal preference for white trim. I believe doors, skirting boards, windows etc should be gloss white. Ceilings and cornices, white again. Re: Opinions needed for skirting/ceiling/internal door colou 3Nov 29, 2010 7:21 pm I would go white then if you choose change paint colour you dont need to redo everything Re: Opinions needed for skirting/ceiling/internal door colou 4Nov 30, 2010 1:45 pm Thanks MishB and Leanne R for your replies. Really appreciate it and see your points of view. We have to make a decision by end of week. Would love even more opinions/thoughts from the forum members on this.....thanks Re: Opinions needed for skirting/ceiling/internal door colou 5Nov 30, 2010 2:01 pm I'd go the 25% of the wall colour. In fact I prefer the wall colour for the trim just in gloss. I like the seamless look it gives and you then only have one colour to work with when doing the rest of the room. We have the wall colour for all our trim and I love how it looks and it seems to look more modern. I sort of think a really contrasting trim can look a bit old fashioned. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. When I compare it to other places and they have colour on their walls and white ceilings it seems to make the room smaller. But this build I am going all white. Joles - Do you ahve any pics you could share with me on how your walls/skirting colour came out. I have considered using the wall colur at 100% strength for the skirting but in gloss and would be great to see a pic of something like this. That would be great. Ring 09 - Given that my wall colour (burnt ash) is not dark at all and is a grey tone with a hint of olive in it, would you say the same is true for this in relation to the point you make re appearance/size of room? Re: Opinions needed for skirting/ceiling/internal door colou 8Nov 30, 2010 2:49 pm Here's a couple of pics. Our paint is Wattyl White Pepper. Another reason we did it all the same colour is because I thought it would be too much contrast to go from the wall colour, to white trim to black windows. Terrence Malick Re: Opinions needed for skirting/ceiling/internal door colou 9Nov 30, 2010 2:54 pm My suggestion is - Burnt Ash (full strength) Whisper White for all trims and doors. (full gloss) BUT….I also like everything the same colour, I’m a little shy of too much grey though, so I’m suggesting white for trims. Grey can be a depressing colour if not done right. Your Burnt Ash is not too dark so I have no hesitation on you using it throughout your home. Thanks for sending through. Noticed though your ceiling seem to be white correct? but clearly your skirtings and window frames are same as wall colour - also our window frames are a silver grey (light colour) so too much contrast would not be an issue Michelle - thanks for your comments. One of the main reasons why I did shy away from going same colour as walls for skirtings/windowframes and doors was that I was afraid it may be too much with burnt ash.....but as you say, burnt ash is not really dark so it could work (as could white finish). If I went same colour as wall for skirting and doors, would it work to go whisper white for ceilings still? or do I also do that in same colour as walls (or 25% strength) Re: Opinions needed for skirting/ceiling/internal door colou 11Nov 30, 2010 3:06 pm chriso Joles and Michelle thanks for your comments Joles - Your colours look great and go well.
