Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Nov 28, 2010 6:48 am Hi guys Well after being in our home for nearly 2 years I am embarrased to say our famiily room is far from finished. We love the couch, the rug, the coffee table and the TV unit. The cushions and decor items were cheap things I picked up to bring some colour into the room but be honest if you think they need to go. I know I want to add another colour in with the cushions but don't know what sort of thing to grab.... We want a piece of artwork for the wall between the two windows. I want a rectangular piece about 60cm x 180cm. I have found a piece I love but am not sure it will be too dark for the space. It can be found here http://www.kanvas.com.au/pattern/141/1/ ... lewis.html Is there anyway to take a screen shot of this pic and put it into the photo to see what it looks like? I'm worried to buy it and then have it just look completely wrong.... What else would you do to the area? I want some decor items with height for on the entertainment unit - I just haven't come across anything that grabs me. We are also open to the idea of painting the other walls around the back of the couch and where the windows are.... Let me know your ideas My karma ran over your dogma Re: Artwork Suggestions/Colour Help 2Nov 28, 2010 8:39 am Sorry, have to go out... only one view. The size of the canvas is different to what you want... so I chose the longest size as the correct size (1.8m) Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. I'm actually thinking it will work pretty well in the space, I was worried the middle section would be too grey/brown and look to much like the couch/rug but it is sort of a different shade I think.... My karma ran over your dogma Re: Artwork Suggestions/Colour Help 4Nov 28, 2010 9:20 am The thing that stands out to me is the way the couch ends and splits the room in the middle. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now you've got this void of half a wall and dead space between coffee table to cabinet. You could have divided the lounges into two and had a table (or plant, or light) in the right corner. I also think a larger rug to fill the floor space would help. And tv sitting on the cabinet... (but I guess that's personal preference). Re: Artwork Suggestions/Colour Help 5Nov 28, 2010 9:32 am Gorgeous couch. I'd flip the canvas so the brown end wasn't near the couch my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Artwork Suggestions/Colour Help 6Nov 28, 2010 10:38 am Interesting Dan, I had never noticed the way the couch sat....I see what you mean though. I don't think DH would allow me to buy another couch though - this is our 2nd within 1 year We do plan on putting something tall in the corner where the TV is - I was thinking a lamp, but a plant is a good suggestion too We did look at bigger rugs but they just didn't suit the space - I actually don't mind having a bit of a gap between the tv unit and the couch - its good for the kids messy activities when they want to watch TV but I don't want them on the rug/couch. I did think of getting an armchair/ottoman made up in some contrasting fabric to the cushions and putting it against that wall so that could be another option.... Great suggestions guys - keep them coming My karma ran over your dogma Re: Artwork Suggestions/Colour Help 7Nov 28, 2010 10:44 am Bel, have you hit the PD website and checked out pics of the family room in their display Cremornes? Might have some inspiration for how to dress the space. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I'd flip the canvas so the brown end wasn't near the couch Then I would only be able to see the white boot. You are great with ideas what would you do with the space? My karma ran over your dogma Re: Artwork Suggestions/Colour Help 10Nov 28, 2010 12:00 pm What Dan has pointed out is 100% correct, but this is a classic case of what would look better wouldn't necessarily work better. Yep, two seperate couches would look better, but then you are cutting down how many seats you can see the telly from. The couches as they are mean that you whole family can spread out and watch telly and you still have the space in front of the telly for the kids to get down on the floor. I'd just go with the canvas and wouldn't worry too much about the blank space. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Artwork Suggestions/Colour Help 11Nov 28, 2010 12:11 pm to have the canvas at the far wall I feel there is too much going on having the 2 windows there. You may create better balance having the canvas on the wall opposite the TV. Also feel that something could go on the floor at the end of the sofa (the wall with the windows) - something with a bit of height, a bit taller than the cushions on the sofa eg a floor light Re: Artwork Suggestions/Colour Help 13Nov 28, 2010 2:49 pm Thanks guys Great suggestions, like Jo said though the positioning of the chairs work well for us how they are at the moment. The height of the TV can't be changed without causing alot of work and the viewing height suits us how it is. I think the one piece of artwork suits that wall, I think it might be quite difficult to find 3 long narrow pieces to go there - it was hard enough finding one The rug was expensive I don't think DH would appreciate me changing it, I love it also anyway. I can see how a bigger rug might look better but practically I think this one suits. I might look at a lamp for the corner and invest in the artwork and see what it looks like from there...... My karma ran over your dogma Re: Artwork Suggestions/Colour Help 14Jul 30, 2011 7:31 pm Sorry to drag up a reasonably old thread! Am after some help again from those photoshop gurus!! I've found a rug which I like the look of and am wondering what it would look like in the lounge room - I remembered the suggestions in this thread about how I needed a bigger rug and this one is 290 x 200, whereas the one we currently have is 230 x 160 so I'm thinking it may work better in the space. I'm a bit worried about the pattern though and how it would fit in. I'm happy to change the cushions etc up to tie in with it but I'd love it if someone could try and photoshop it into my photos in place of my old rug so I can get an idea of it in the space. Any help would be much appreciated!! Here is the rug I'm looking at http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 0226939166 and my lounge again to see what it would look like Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My karma ran over your dogma Re: Artwork Suggestions/Colour Help - new help needed! 16Jul 30, 2011 8:01 pm Ahhhh Dan!! How I love your work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How cool putting the shrek on the tv too I actually think this could work really well!!! May have to change up some stuff - coffee table/cushions etc but I think the rug fills the space far better - is that a pretty true to life idea of the size?
